Friend pays tribute to taxi driver who died in harbour tragedy

SCENE: The aftermath of the tragic incident at Peterhead Harbour.

TRIBUTES were today paid to a man who died when his taxi plunged into a North-east harbour.

Graeme Reid lost his life when his vehicle went into the water at Peterhead.

The 42-year-old’s body was recovered from the area after a major rescue operation.

Rauri McLean, who worked with Mr Reid at Grab A Cab in the Seagate area of Peterhead, today spoke of his shock after being just 100 yards away from where the incident occurred.

He said: “Working as a taxi driver was his life.

“Even when he was supposed to be off we had to chase him to go home and nothing was ever too much bother for Graeme.”

Mr Reid, who only recently celebrated his 42nd birthday, was found in the driver’s seat of his Hyundai taxi.

He lived with his wife Carolyn in Peterhead, who he recently married.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “A full investigation will be carried out to find the cause of the accident.”
