The Amsterdam cop have a lightly different method of dealing with people who obstruct their tram.

I witnessed an incident a few years back: British coach stops foul of the tram track to unload 53 pax and luggage. After 2 minuntes, there's trams as far as the eye can see. Amsterdam, cop turn up and ask Brit driver to move aid coach. "Yes, I'm unloading". "You will move the coach now please". "Yes, in a minute I'm unloading". Cop pulls gun "you will move your coach please"....for some strange reason he did.

Duesseldorf tow obstructing cars away within 3 minutes as do Gothenberg and most other European cities that operate trams. The people of Croydon soon learnt that tram can't swerve round them.

If a cabby or anyone else parks in such a stupid place to get whatever from a shop, they don't deserve to be driving anyway.

A mistake was made. It was during a trial. A learning exercise.

The female cabby apologised. She realised her own stupidity and apologised for it. That should have been the end of the matter.

Could be she will be dragged before the council's kangaroo court and will no doubt apologise again. It seems likely that the fascists on the committee will accept her apology and threaten her ab out future mistakes.

But there again, if she has previous with these fascists, they may well just stiff her anyway, suspend her licence until renewal, cause her to lose her livelihood and place her in severe financial jeopardy.

You see, these councillors hold all the cards. They can do whatever they like, and usually do.

They conduct themselves in secret, so they can not be identified for the actions they take, and they can't be held to account.

They can make their decisions "as they see fit" so are not subject to any standards of decision making, nor do they have to take account of any precedents, or benchmarks. In this way, those who are being stiffed do not enjoy equality before the Law, a complete negation of the right to a fair hearing under Human Rights Law.

But its no more than licence holders deserve.

Because, by doing nothing about it, licence holders are responsible for it happening.

So, when this cabbie is abused by the committee, flagellate your self. Because any licence holder may be next in line for a beating.

Democracy? Accounatbility? 21st Century? Equality? Rights?

Drivers unaware of their rights..................................................whose fault is that

All of the above could easily be dealt with by a Unionised workforce prepared to show solidarity and be politically active

Didnt i read that in Dundee there are 2 GMB sponsored Councillors??????????????? maybe thats the way

Been there, done that got the T shirt.

We have a union branch in Edinburgh (I think).

Problem is it was immediately hijacked by the usual suspects, who used it as a means to massage their own egos.

I'm not aware of any attempt to recruit members, apart from the abortive start 10 years ago.

I'm not aware of any attempt by the so called office bearers to articulate any arguments on behalf of members.

I'm not Even aware if or where any union meetings are ever held?

It remains an organisation in a state of torpor.

A failure and betrayal of a laudable principle.

And the labour members on the council are dirtiest scumbag c
abby beaters on the council. They are responsible for maintaining restriction and stiffing cabbies as a matter of routine. I now despise everything Labour. A plague on their corrupt house.
