No, I want multiples of free plates for me and my colleagues. On the other hand we want the plates that we are challenging the council for whether to run them as a business or to sell them. I have no allegiance to the restrictive market brigade but that’s not to say I would not take advantage of a situation they have created.

The bottom line is I don’t think anyone should be denied a licence plate and the opportunity to run their own taxi if they so wish. If they want to sell a plate and become a driver or want to leave the trade altogether then that’s fine by me it’s their choice after all.

What we have here is a situation where the Licence Plate owners see the Council as some sort of benevolent dictatorship protecting the plate value which they feel gives them their position in life. The mandarins who claim to represent the trade are only interested in protecting their vested interest.

The minute you speak out over any contentious issue the trade mandarins want to shoot you down or try to stab you in the back. The council will do everything in its power to make an example of you just to show everyone who has the power and the control. You’re so called colleagues will then jump to take the moral high ground and more often or not defend the council in what ever decision they make as long as this means no plate increase.

The situation makes me want to throw up. We are being served up to the wolves and most will pretend it is not even happening as long as the plate premiums are going up that’s all that matters.

Profits are falling the hours are getting longer and our competitors are taking away all our business, marvellous.

I think you can see why I am not too bothered about leaving the taxi trade.
