Hi.

I am looking at becoming a Private Hire Driver ( had enough of driving buses ). I have been in touch with Addison Lee in London and have been quoted some potential earnings. I have taken the figures which a pinch of salt as earnings are subject to many conditions, however how does one get paid??

Is it weekly by bank transfer? What does one do with any fares collected?
How does the firm collect rental fees?

Finally, is there any way a driver can predict his earnings as he goes through the week? Do we know how much jobs are worth and can we go on to work out what we may have earned for a day?

Thank you very much for any advice.

That's a good start, I can't imagine any PH circuit in London saying "come join us where the money's crap".

As for how drivers get paid, well there are upmteen different ways that the circuits work. Some will pay you a wage, some will just rent you a radio, some will take a % of your take, and some will do a bit of everything.

I think the more up market you go, the more cash-less work (credit card, accounts) you will do. So your circuit will pay you out weekly/monthly.

If you do the normal work (pubs/clubs/shops/chimney pot/etc), then that, in the main, will be cash work which you will keep. But once a week you will have to visit the office to pay your rent or %.

I would talk to drivers actually working on any circuit before I started, but you will always have the option to change circuits at any time.

depends on when you work and for how long.
but if you work hard and long you will earn just fine.
but if you dont then you wont.
