I have recently won a long drawn out court case with an ex-employer and i am now looking to invest some money into a taxi plate and vehicle. Id like some advice in general on the best way to proceed. I am currently a private hire driver up in glasgow but want to get away from the dependancy of the office and increasingly their petty ways of allocating jobs.
I am in two minds on deciding what type of plate to go with, either a black hack and plate together, or the glasgow airport taxi.
I would appreciate some input from those with lots more experience of the two different types.
Personally i would prefer the hack but what is the chances of avialability of a hack with plate on the open market and a rough price guide.
Also is the airport taxis a better standard of work and less hasles than what we currently deal with in and out of the city centres etc.
Wheres the best place to look for those folk selling up ,,,cheers for any advice.

I think you've probably missed out the most important question, namely the risks involved in buying a taxi plate.

The going rate in Glasgow seems to be about £35k, have a read of the other recent thread concerning a taxi plate in Glasgow:

yeh ive had a read at that,,,well id be well peed off to spend 35k only to find the plates are worth f all later on,,,but with de regulation, this would mean that , providing your vehicle is of the certain age, any one could apply for hack carriage licence free of charge,,or least minus the market values now asked for ???
is it worth sticking your name down on the so called waiting list straight ??

I suspect your great grandchildren will be ready to drive it, when you get a plate off that list.
