Correct me if I am being stupid but Taxifirst already had the work and they were asked to cut their prices. How is that an attractive business proposition?

well one way to save would be to get the parents who don't work to take them , when they apply for there kids transport they should be asked do you work? if they say no well give them a £5 fuel allowance per week, if they do work well fair enough

Quite.

Do/did the council really think small, or one man, firms are really well placed to wait months for their money?

I bet the prices have been driving down to a point where the drivers swerve them. I bet they're better off working the streets than doing a school run.

If you go back to the original post you will see that the council cancelled all contracts and started again to try and save £350,000. Taxifast had most of the contracts and basically told the council to do one.
