Hi,

I have just had my CRB check back and the report is showing up some minor convictions from when I was 14. (21 years ago) They look worse than they are, for instance arson is listed (me and a couple of mates tried to burn a hole in a bubble gum machine with an aerosol!! ) There are five in total and are made up of theft and criminal damage.

This was a minor mistake when i was young and have no further convictions during my law abiding adult life. I have my appointment with the council to collect my badge and plate on friday and I am a little worried. The council paperwork says "subject to there being no convictions or any information of concern to the council we can proceed with the application.

I am not in a position to wait for a "sub-committee" meeting and am desperate to get out on the road.

Has anyone had a similar experience ... am I worrying over nothing....

Please help!!! eusasmiles.zip

Thanks

Simon

I had 3 counts of Benefit Fraud on mine, over 10 years previous, had to wait for a sub-comittee meeting, and was told to attend in person,
As this was another 5 weeks off, i had to find a job to pay the rent, wrote a letter stating the situation and facts, and got my licence on a provisional 12 month probation.

I wouldn't worry too much about it considering the time since the conviction.

I was also a bad boy 15 years ago and I too thought that this would be held against me but as the person behind the desk said, because it was so long ago and I've been exceptionally good since then there shouldn't be too much to worry about.

The main reason why it's done in the first place is because you will indeed be in contact with the very young, old and vulrunable people, if you had been given a conviction concerning any of the above then I'm sure they would throw it out altogether as they should.

I was told that it may have to go to a committee but was decided not to becuase of the age of the conviction, with 21 years behind you I'm sure you won't have a problem, providing also that you didn't try to hide this information from them in the first place on your application form. I was tempted to do this but decided not to as I was sure it would come out on the CRB.

I'm no expert on this, just going by my own recent experience of applying for my first badge.

Maybe the reason why you had to go before a committee on this one is becuase you were done for fraud, when I asked at the time when I applied they told me that it was mainly to check for dishonesty which in your case it surely was.

At least it just goes to prove that providing the severity isn't too much you can still get your badge, even if it is on a 12 month probation.

I think you are worrying about nothing. The convictions are well and truely spent and are not of the kind that Councils would normally be concerned over, these being sex offences, drugs, crimes of violence or theft. I would be surprised if you were called in for a chat.

I'm extremelysurprised your juvenile crimes were listed?

I think you should be ok.

Just go to the council and if they ask you any questions about it, then just tell them the truth.

I doubt any of us (apart from TDO) has had a perfect past.

I am shocked and horrified. You commit a number of heinous crimes against society and expect to get a taxi licence. You are lucky we don’t take you out and have you flogged, my god, next you’ll be expecting a membership with the Tory party.

What is the world coming to?

The case start to end was a cock up,
The DHSS admitted in court they had made a mistake and had suspended and disciplined a member of staff.

I was working for an agency, days here and there, and thus signing on and off as and when the work came and stopped.
1 day, when signing on this member off staff said to me
"Stop [edited by admin] us about now, you either sign on and stay on, or sign off and stay off" as my file was rather large by now, and with missed appointments and the like due to taking work when it came, so i thought bollocks to losing out so stay signed on when i got work.
I signed off when i got full time employment, and also made a complaint about what had happened, and also listed days where i had worked while signed on.
I moved house a few month later then 12 months after that came a visit, I was due in court for Benefit fraud, letters had been sent to the old address and ignored, but nothing to the new and they found me with a visit
So thats 2 errors from them up to now.
Went to court, i gave my story, DHSS gave theirs, admitted their mistakes but still wanted to pursue,
Hence i got royally done over.

I vowed in court never to recieve benefits again and would sit outside in a peaceful protest the prosecutors the magistrates houses if i was ever out of work too show how their wrong doing could ruin a man.

Since being a PH i have had to pick up 1 of the magistrates, shame the poor bloke and his missus were stranded as i drove off when they came to the door.
