An eye witness told the PA news agency: "There were a couple of fire engines with a car ablaze on the upper floor of the car park at just after 9pm.

"A few minutes later most of the upper floor was alight, car alarms were going off with loud explosions from cars going up in flames.

"The speed in which the fire took hold was incredible."

All flights have been suspended at Luton Airport after a large fire on Tuesday evening

Terminal Car Park 2 suffered a "significant structural collapse", fire service says
Up to 1,200 vehicles may have been in the car park at the time

Flights have been suspended until 15:00 BST

Hundreds of people have been stranded at the airport

Fire service says the blaze appears to have been "accidental"

up until recent times I can't remember a mass blaze at a multi storey but this is the second in recent years and I think it is down to the fact that modern cars have a greater tendency to catch fire

nope it was confirmed by the fire brigade as a diesel and from other reports NO EV's were involved although there is an area on the lower floors that has EV charging points

The diesel Range Rover has been cleared of all charges. The latest suspect is a Tesla charging point.

probably but the video of the fire chief making his statement said they would get their equipment out of the way so people could drop off but as that car park is close by I would imagine it would be restricted

Apparently a 2014 Range Rover Sport, there's also a video taken from behind the car

Our driver went down this morning to do the drop off. From the moment he left the M1 to the moment he got back on the M1 took 30 minutes. So it would seem that there was no real hold up at that time. it was at 11.30.

there was also one at Glasgow airport the same day allegedly involving just a single vehicle but can't find anything verifying it so perhaps fake news

In the meantime footage has emerged which suggests it was a hybrid vehicle and it was the lithium battery which went up in flames with a suggestion that fire extinguishers were used on it but to no avail :-k
