Police are urgently searching for a man who stabbed an Uber driver in the chest and has been following and trying to grab women in South London. Police say the driver was knifed twice on Nightingale Lane, Clapham at about 12.40am this morning (Thursday, November 23). Thankfully he has been released from hospital as his condition is not life-threatening or life changing.

Detectives believe the attacker had previously followed women on multiple occasions in Clapham ahead of this this. Last Friday (November 17) a woman was walking on Sisters Avenue at 4am when she noticed a man following her.

As he got close, she began to shout and he ran away. He was in possession of a knife, police say. Another incident took place on Sumburgh Road at 1.40am on Sunday (November 19) where the alleged attacker approached a woman and grabbed her, but she managed to escape.

Officers have linked this suspect to the three offences from the description. At about 2.50am this morning, officers saw the suspect at Clapham Common near the Holy Trinity Church, approaching women. They chased him but he ran off in the direction of Clapham Common West Side.

At 4.45am the same officers recognised him, but using a red bike he escaped the police on St John’s Road at the junction with Aliwal Road. He is described as white, between 25 and 30 years old, of slim build with short blond hair. Anyone seeing this man should not approach him, but call 999 immediately.

Detective Superintendent Dan O’Sullivan, from the South West Command Unit, said: "We are extremely concerned about this man and we need to find him as soon as possible. I am really concerned that he will commit further offences and I am asking anyone who knows him or has any information to call police. You can also call Crimestoppers and you do not have to give your name.

"We know this will cause community concern and we will be carrying out extra patrols at key times. If you have any information, please do not hesitate but call us straight away."

Any witnesses or anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or contact via X (Twitter) @MetCC. Please quote CAD 754/17Nov. To give information anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at crimestoppers-uk.org.

Balham: Man arrested over south London Uber driver stabbing

A man has been arrested on suspicion of committing grievous bodily harm after an Uber driver was stabbed in south London.

The Met Police said the driver was stabbed twice in the chest in Balham in the early hours on Thursday.

It followed incidents during October and November in which women were targeted in Clapham Junction, Brixton and Balham.

Police said a 22-year-old man was arrested in Brixton on Friday.

He was also arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and public order offences, and remained in police custody, the Met added.

Det Supt Dan O'Sullivan said extra police would be deployed in the area to reassure members of the public.

He added: "I know that many people will have been incredibly concerned about the details of these linked investigations.

"A team of dedicated detectives are continuing to carry out a thorough investigation."

Officers also arrested a 35-year-old man at the same location on suspicion of burglary in relation to an unrelated ongoing investigation.
