Fascinated by this. I think just about every operator in the country is considering this option.

Not to keep wages low, just to find people to help them meet the demand, especially in the evenings.

Not sure Mr Preece's way is best, but he has 100 drivers on the road on a Saturday night so he can answer the phones.

Aye right! Aye right! Of course he's right! Unmet demand that's what it's all about.

And if you think its bad in the City of Plymouth, then spare a thought for the City of Soledad, where it happens to be considerably worse let me tell you.

In fact it's such a clear cut case, that I would like to make a modest proposal here: That the City of Soledad's 2005 Audit be used as a yardstick by which all future UK Unmet Demand Surveys be measured, whereby:

1) If it's worse than Soledad - then ok, there's unmet demand.

2) If it's not as bad as Soledad yet - then it is obvious that there is no case.

How clear cut is that? No messing about with disputing the evidence and all that sort of nonsense. Should save the councils many, many thousands of pounds in expensive survey fees.

Read the City of Soledad Audit Report here. The auditor's (extremely perceptive) conclusions are to be found on page 24 - especially recommendation number one.

No pulling the wool over their eyes then.

I knew I would get there in the end.

The nitty gritty is in chapter two of the above document by the way.
