I saw one of these for the first time on Friday, It was rather cute.

It could be the case that running costs and profitability are incompatible, in Carlisle? This must be a body blow for the Ladies in pink?

You could be right, but the running costs weren't as high as those of properly licensed vehicles, although properly licensed vehicles dont tend to tell 50% of the population you cant use them!

What surprises me is that I believe in Hull, which has a larger population than Carlisle, they have apparently started with 4 vehicles as opposed to Carlisle's 7.

I do actually think the trade can learn from these people though, some of their schemes seem good ideas.

Well whatever the scale of the economics of this business model it surely didn't come to fruition in Carlisle. Seven new vehicles have to be paid for in one way or another and I suspect there was a weekly rental fee involved. If the work and or female drivers were scarce then we can understand why it folded.

Seven vehicles just don't seem sufficient to run a proper despatch office - too many overheads, too few vehicles.

What's the latest on the licensing situation in Carlisle, Captain; could this have something to do with it?

But I doubt if there'll be a huge number of takers queueing up to take on the franchise, but you could always have a think about it Captain

Someone bought me a nice Pink poloshirt for my birthday last month.

As for the latest on the licensing situation, theres much ado about the envisaged european hoardes coming to drive cabs in Carlisle.

The TOA are trying to bring in an upper and lower age limit on WAV's.

Well I was actually alluding in particular to the Section 75 situation, and whether the Pink Ladies were still able to avail themselves of the exemption, but it's nice to hear about your pink polo shirt.

I've got one as well, according to some people, but the colour's actually 'rose'

I still await Carlisle CC's barristers opinion, I think I'll have to go down the route of a FOI enquiry.

I suppose we'll have to wait till its gone through Parliament, just trying to get people to send letters to MP's, which basically means doing it yourself

Yes, I was just wondering if the exemption situation was influential in the folding of the franchise.

Maybe the heat is on with regard to the council, or maybe they realised that the writing was on the wall anyway with regard to the removal of the exemption by Parliament.

Or maybe it was just a business idea that was always destined to fail.

Well they pay about £5.50ph for days and £7.50ph nights, now i cant see for the life of me how it pays them or how they stick to some sort of time on the bookings. Let alone pay the vehicle costs, thats why they're not plated i'll bet the savings on the plate are a big slice of the proffit's.

It is a great idea, but you need at least 20-30 cars to make it pay, simply to cover work on time accross the whole borough.

Some punters will find it a novelty running around in a pink vehicle but the praticalities of the business are flawed. I think its fairly obvious that the lady in Carlisle was taking in less money than she was paying out.

Under those circumstances there is only one way to go and "thats down".
