With all these parts they are buying from overseas it might come down to "buy one get one free" in a few years time?

The Express

October 19, 2006 Thursday

HEADLINE: China cuts black cab costs;

CITY AND BUSINESS EDITED BY STEPHEN KAHN

BYLINE: Andrew Johnson

CHINESE suppliers are helping London black-cab maker Manganese Bronze combat rising steel costs and problems caused by MG Rover's collapse, writes Andrew Johnson. [/b]

The company said it planned to buy more parts from China through a sourcing office based there and via its new manufacturing joint venture with Geely Holdings in Shanghai.

Manganese's steel costs have risen GBP 700,000 this year and many of its UK suppliers failed after car group MG Rover went bankrupt.

Finance director Mark Fryer said Manganese Bronze had saved GBP 800,000 this year by finding parts overseas and hoped the firm would one day buy most of its components from Asia.

He was speaking as the company unveiled an 88 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to GBP 3.7million, with a GBP 1.1million property sale gain. Some lossmaking operations were also sold.

Chairman Tim Melville-Ross said the company was set fair for the future. Its deal with Geely Holdings will see 20,000 vehicles a year made in China. Manganese Bronze also launched its latest, less polluting taxi, the TX4, yesterday. The shares rose 37p to 527 dp.

That's the first photo I've seen of the TX4 - on New Car Net - and I think the front end looks terrible. I definitely think though, that the price is too high - £27,000 for the entry level model.

The TX4 was launched today at Taxifix in Liverpool and KPM in London are launching the new cab tomorrow.
