I'll have a look T, but the Scottish Parliament doens't have the power to nationalise the railways anyway - it's a reserved matter for Westminster.

I think it's a case of T. hearing what he wants to hear. The fact that he seems to be the only mush hearing it is neither here nor there.

Had a listen, hardly any mention of the Scottish Parliament, it's a Labour party proposal. No one or nothing in the programme suggested that it was about renationalisation.

Have a read of this, which basically echos what was said in the programme...

I only repeated what I thought I heard on the news today, I could be wrong.

Where did you listen? I have tried the BBC Online and they only repeat the 8am & 6pm news not the lunchtime. I would like to hear it again. The Herald does back up the story, the ending of the railway franchise. I was only using it to demonstrate the change in political thinking which is still apparent.

Go to the following and click on "listen to latest programme" towards the top right corner.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/news/wato/

I would skip forward to around the twenty minute mark.

It may demonstrate a change in thinking, but not too much about the taxi trade I think.

Thank you for that, I was beginning to think I was hearing things. Again my point was that the general thinking on transport matter has changed and those against wholesale Dereg/Delimit could use this in their argument. Everbody agrees that the Rail, Bus etc dereg has not brought any consumer benefits.

Rubbish. [-X

The only problem with the trains is they have been too successful. Buses in some areas are taking more people than they have for the last 50 years.

Get your stats right T. they are all available on the DfT or ONS sites.

Trains are carrying more people per track mile than ever before.
BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN RIPPING UP MORE TRACK THAN EVER BEFORE.
Some City areas are taking more passengers, the plum routes are busier but the services outside city centres is worse than 75 years ago. No Sunday services. no buses after 6pm etc etc etc
Before bus companies had an obligation to provide services now they don't so services are cut. Its all available in DFT ONS and Government Statistic everywhere. Quote some passenger surveys, Sussex, lets hear what the users say.

My point is that the overall general political thinking has changed, dereg/delimit is not the magic wand they were led to believe it would be. If Councillors don't see the connection immediatley they soon will when threatened areas bring it to their attention.

But hopefully they'll know the difference between privatisation and deregulation, and between deregulation and derestriction, which are three totally different concepts.
