But don't you think it might be good if members of your family, and your good friends, live a little bit longer.

Thats all very well and the law is the law.
But the law says "enclosed public places" so stood outside your vehicle isnt an enclosed public place.

Does me sat in my cab with the windows open count as "enclosed"????

That,ll be the first time ive heard that one right enough!!!
Of course the smoking ban is a good thing! there,s no argument!!
The blanket ban mentality i think is wrong!! You tell me why it is right that a van or truck driver on his own in his own vehicle cannot smoke?
Italy has a partial ban weighted towards non smoking but they have pubs
you can smoke in ! That could have easily been acheived here! oh i forgot nanny Mconnell and nanny blair don,t like that thing called choice!!!!!

Because smoking kills, and ignorance isn't an excuse to allow it to carry on.

If you saw the driver stabbing himself with a knife would you also ignore it. Especially if it was a mate or a mum.

So does does driving over 30 mph but of course none of you do that during the course of a shift!!!!!
Especially when getting dragged for that all important airport job!!!!
Anyway the point im making is people smoking on their own. the legislation is designed to cut out passive smoking and workers who have no choice of the atmosphere they work in !!! Thats fine its just went to far!
just see how many van drivers
,cabbies etc ignore the ban its scary !!!!

I agree with all that, and it's going to be a nightmare to enforce.

But, as I said, I believe smoking should be banned full-stop. Not just to protect the smokers, and folks through passive smoking, but to stop all us non smokers watching our family and friends dying of really horrible diseases.

and non-smokers don't get really horrid diseases then? Aids, Hepatitis, Syphillis etc all cause vast expense on the NHS and can KILL; they are passed about without a smoke screen to alert you to the risks............. what comes next? Oh yes, in the interests of health the Government will ban shagging!

And sorry whoever it was that made the comment about the ticket over the border; the smoke coming out of my ears without the aid of a cigarette has clouded my vision somewhat; yes I did have to pay it as I was carry a fare picked up in Aberdeen so although out of my area came under your juristriction apparently!

Well I would also rather my friends and family didn't die of that lot as well.

I can't wait to get my first ticket for smoking in my cab (ok so the one I got in Aberdeen is not included  ) I'll ask for a Court hearing and fight it all the way. It is my right to smoke; I'm over 18 and aware of the health impllications. I am also well aware of the "health implications" of getting out of my cab, and walking away from it to have a smoke in the middle of the night  - I'll take my chances and stay int he cab thank you very much.

And just to give all you anti-smokers something to think about; us smokes contribute an awful lot of money to the Government via the hugh taxes that we pay on our "habit". Now if we were all to take up the Governments incentives and QUIT we would all be entitled to FREE patches / gum etc, FREE counselling, PAID LEAVE from work to deal with the stress of giving up, FREE prescription drugs to ease the side effects and all this on top of the vast deficit in the amount of money that the Government gets from the TAX that none of us would be paying. I think in a long winded way I was trying to say - if we all give up smoking your tax bills will rise and the base rate will end up at about 35% (raising the 40% to about 65%) so .............. do we really want a smoking ban????

Two points, Tigger.

One. Smoking is not a habit. It's not even a bad habit.

Smoking is an addiction. It's not your fault you are addicted, it's the fault of the tobacco companies, and the government. You are addicted to nicotine, as is every smoker. Me? I'm a beer lover, but I'm not addicted, I can, (and do,) go for days or weeks, even, without a single one. I am not dreaming about when I will be having my next one, nor do I crave one whilst driving. Of course, alcoholism is a problem for a small, (very small) percentage of drinkers, but I personally do not need a drink when I wake up in the morning, nor do I HAVE to drink. But if you were down to your last £3, and hungry, would you buy food or fags? I reiterate, your addiction is not your fault.

Two. A smoking ban? Yes, I do want one, along with the vast majority.

Renfrewshire Councils smoking enforcement chappies have informed me that I cannot smoke within 16 feet of my car. Therefore I can technically only smoke in my kitchen, bathroom or at the top of my stairs (just a wee house) as I park on my driveway at night.

Also cant smoke in my car when I am not working even if I can prove I am logged off. Argued it was my private car when not working and was told I would need to remove my plate and window stickers if I wanted to have a fag in the car. Need to remember to write to them and ask them for 14600 sets of window stickers so I can remove and replace them everytime I have a fag.

If anyone sees the collective Council brain cell please return it to Cotton Street.

Do you use part of your house to do your books? because this will make it a work place and you can't smoke there either.

The garden should be fine for now. I don't think they have brought out a law to stop you smoking near your pets. That will be next year.
