Since its introduction the E7 has radically transformed the UK hackney taxi market and steadily eroded the monopoly held by the traditional “London style” black cab which sells 60% of its product in London where it is protected by historic licensing conditions which date back to the days of the horse and cart. These London conditions preserve a single-company monopoly that also currently prevents the E7 from being licensed for use in Manchester and Liverpool.

Nice to see they got that into the press release.

Good looking motor, van or not.

Well if they have sorted the door handles they will be on to a winner, don't like the unpainted front bumper though

A complete change of appearance.

I would say that Cab Direct have done pretty well in the last couple of years establishing the E7 as a taxi.

The public now recognise the E7, but with this major change of appearance they will have to get to grips with another 'new' taxi.

I don't think it looks near as 'taxi-like' as the old model - if that ever looked like a taxi.

Looks a bit more like the Merc van-based taxis, but since there aren't too many of them around it won't help it as a recognition factor.

But I suppose that once the public have gotten used to any deviance from the traditional black cabs then any alternative will be more recognisable.

Well that's true, I'd agree that once the public in a particular licensing area get used to seeing one alternative taxi, say an E7, then the other alternatives will come in on the back of this with no problems.

It's just a case of the public getting used to seeing vehicles other than the LTI and Metrocab taxis.

And yes, the other Euro-type taxis will all take on this appearance - the TW200 (which I think is to be launched at the PHTM show), the Voyager Eurocab etc.

I'd say that from the photos I've seen, the 'TAXI' signage looks less prominent than on the earlier Eurotaxi and E7 cabs.
