Did you know Mr GA that a certain OAP GMB man from the London PH trade has been telling the lads that he is going to be a big fish in the national GMB, and will be your boss? Image

Word on the street Cap is the gov are pushing B&H to have a Cabinet and/or elected Mayor.

Still I can't wait to see the new 'powers that be', be they Blue Green Yellow or a combination, as I know someone who is going to send the new leader and the new licensing chair all those nice words that Terry has posted on here, and elsewhere, about their parties.

Brighton GMB PDB lobbied the local councillors to issue 20 new plates to help with the lack of disabled taxis. 8 Brighton GMB PDB members now have wav plates.

Short memory, the policy was for 35 plates a year. :?

So remind me what the local GMB are doing now to ensure that the voted policy of their local members is adhered too.

Sorry but can the B&H GMB remind me what happened to this policy that was voted on by the members? :?

Surely now with a new council set up they can pursue this policy. :-s

At the GMB PDB Brighton meeting on 6th November 2006 the following policy was agreed. 20 plates to be issued straight away, and a further 35 for the following two years to help meet service requirements of wheelchair users.

The GMB PDB Brighton answers to its members, not to people who hide behind fictitious names.

So what is the B&H GMB doing about implementing it's policy?

Or doesn't it matter what members vote for? And just for the record may I remind you what the B&H GMB's view is.

Dear Tim,

Re: Halcrow taxi demand survey

Having discussed the Halcrow taxi survey at our meeting tonight, our members wish to make the following observations and recommendation.

The Halcrow report has calculated that there is a need for an extra 150 wheel-chair access vehicle, if our wheel-chair bound customers are to receive the same level of service as our able bodied customers. We agree with that view, and believe Halcrow’s first option, which is to do nothing, is not a realistic one and should be ignored by the members of the licensing committee.

Following a lengthy, but constructive debate, our members have decided against choosing option three, which is to end the restriction on taxi numbers and allow free entry to those meeting the council’s criteria. This option does have merit, but we have concerns for drivers that have invested large sums of money in taxi plates, and don’t wish to see them lose their investments overnight.

We are therefore recommending option two, which is the managed growth option. This is current council policy and we believe could solve the problems encountered by wheel-chair bound customers, if enough new licenses are issued to meet their demand.

We do however believe that the current level of five new licenses a year is nowhere near enough, and if the trade and the council want to make a serious effort to sort out the shortfall in wheel-chair access vehicles then the council should issue a minimum of 35 new hackney carriage licenses each year, with a condition that each vehicle should be adapted to carry wheel-chair bound customers.

If the council adopted this policy then the shortfall in wheel-chair access vehicles should be addressed by the time of the next survey in 2009. Whereas if the council kept to the five a year policy, then by 2009 the situation will be considerably worse.

Yours sincerely
Michael Doyle

Perhaps you can post the second letter that was sent at the time as we were dealing with two issues.

In answer to your question: 'So what is the B&H GMB doing about implementing it's policy?' The GMB PDB Brighton answers to its members, not to people who hide behind fictitious names.

Nice picture, must be a self portrait?

Not so sure it's a picture of me, but the hand is defo Terry's. :-$

As for your refusal to adopt and promote the policy voted on by the members is all that needs to be said about you and your GMB boss. [-X

Perhaps you can remind me who wanted the council to WAV de-limit after they rejected the GMB proposals?

Or have you also sold out against the disabled as well? :?

If you are a member  , and if you had turned up at the last Brighton GMB PDB meeting held on 2nd May 2007  , you would know what the Branch policy is on the aforementioned issue.

Therfore please do not make statements such as, 'As for your refusal to adopt and promote the policy voted on by the members is all that needs to be said about you and your GMB boss' which you have no facts or proof of.

So is this confirmation that you have sold out the disabled? :?

So only members that turn up to meetings are allowed to know what's going on, the rest are kept in the dark.

It's as if the B&H GMB have got something to hide. [-X

Or they just don't like telling the 95% that don't turn up what's being decided in their names.

Democracy at it's worst. You should be ashamed. [-X
