There is a mixed fleet of hackneys in newcastle, roughly 339 saloons and 550 wavs.Only the wavs are allowed allover advertising. Surely the advertising on a saloon would also help towards the safety aspect in this day and age of identifying the car that is eithier picking the passenger up or that has picked the passenger up.Also there is no advertising whatsoever allowed on P/H apart from the topsign but other local councils allow it.I Totally agree with one law for the whole of the land.

I fail to see how they can allow one lot of cabs to have adverts, but not all. :?

Have you asked?

Gateshead allow adverts on any licensed vehicle, obviously after approval.

Fairness and equality in action.

So why blur the distinction between HC & PH?

Aren't Newcastle HC's all colour restricted too?

As for the PH topsigns, they should have them removed.

Here London Style Cabs are allowed all over advertising, Hacks on the doors and PH on on the lower part of the front door and all have to be approved by LO prior to being displayed. Also London style cabs that are fully covered in adverts don't have to display the Council crest whilst all that aren't do :-k

The hackney cabs can be any colour they want as long as they have allover advertising on,otherwise they must be black. The hackney saloons must always be black and are allowed a small advert on the rear door only. The private hire are allowed nothing full stop apart from a small topsign.

They will issue a stop notice on any saloon that has the advertising on that does not conform to their criteria.

As far as i can recollect it is so that an all black hack saloon is easier to identify to the public. Having said that they try to flag anything down with 4wheels or even 3 on a busy sat night.

Not sure that makes sense.

Surely a black cab is just as easy to see with advertising as without.

Whereas the opposite could be said about saloons. :?

It seems that it is so that the public can differrentiate between a hack saloon and a ph saloon.Personally i cant see why they wont allow it accoss the back quarter panels and doors but rules are rules i suppose.
