Perhaps, but probably not such a nob as the clowns who were no doubt winding him up.

Let's face it, many of the doughnuts out at the weekend spend their whole night looking for a reaction like that - funny that they happened to be filming?

The marshall is meant to be a professional though and goes on courses in order to deal with confrontation, dont get me wrong im not saying these idiots at the weekend are angels far from it, but the badge on the side of the arm means the marshall should be beyond the type of behaviour he displayed!!

It looked to me as though these marshalls were working for the taxi company which was plainly visisible in the video. I got the impression there was no public rank outside this taxi office therefore I doubt the Marshalls were employed by the council.

Hi Jd, but irrespective of who they work for they should still have completed the course otherwise they are not entitled to wear the badges thus enabling them to controll this situation, and the fact still remains that imo they were out of order, however as TDO points out perhaps things may have been different had the cameras not of been recording.

I wasn't aware there was a course for taxi marshalls? You don't have to be licensed to be a taxi marshall.

But the sia badge is only given if you have passed a course, there are indeed at least 2 different types of course though, 1 for those dealing with people on licenced premises, ie doorstaff, 1 for those that deal with people outside of licenced premises ie security officers, ( RETAIL and the like ) I believe this is the course these taxi marshalls will have done, however im prepared to accept that i may be wrong  I'm sure though that due to the fact they are dealing with the public they would of had to of done the course.

As far as I'm aware its only doormen who have to be licensed. However a license doesn't guarantee the self control of a bouncer stroke doorman.

I think the marshall treated the lads in a way they wanted to be treated.

I also think, sometimes, the only way to deal with scum is to treat them like scum.

I think we would all agree that we get plenty of scum in this job, at least in certain areas?

Scum comes in many shapes and sizes and unfortunately we sometimes don't realise this until we have them in the cab. Scum is not restricted to any one type of individual because I've encountered rich scum, poor scum and even the female type of scum. The one thing they have in common is that they are all scum and when they have had a drink in most cases they become unacceptable scum.

Bouncers are not immune from the scum effect because I've seen innocent helpless victims beaten up outside nightclubs just because a bouncer wanted to show off his pugilistic abilities. I'm sure we've all witnessed such actions in the past both before and since bouncers required licenses?

The point I'm trying to make is that sometimes both the public and bouncers are equally to blame for confrontations that take place at venues and locations that have a security presence.

Regards

JD

I once saw the other side of this at a night club in Nottingham. There was a punter who was giving a doorman so much abuse and threatening him with alsorts I know that I would not have been able to stop myself. But this doorman remained perfectly calm and polite and never raised his voice at all. This went on for at least 15 minutes before the punter eventually gave up and moved on. Now that was proffesionalism.
