I have been in contact with vosa about getting licence from them and they sent me the T&C's

Part of which is the following
"How the law changed

3. Section 265 of the Transport Act 2000 changed the law by requiring a small vehicle hired as a whole for a single charge to be licensed as a PHV. Small vehicles licensed as PSVs must only be operated at separate fares i.e. where each passenger pays separately to travel. "

Please can someone explain this to me, as going by what is said here, most limo operators cant use this type of licence.

Help please

If you have a hire for £200 and there are 8 passengers they each pay £25.
If there are 4 passengers they each pay £50.

ok so each person must pay seperatly? i dont see how that works for limo hire.

Can not just one preson in the group pay as long as sigh something saying other passengers have given there fair to this person. or something along these lines.

No company i have looked at that operates with vosa states must pay seperate rates ect. so not sure how they getting around this.

Don't confuse "separate fares" with what are usually "thought" to be bus fares. There is nothing to stop you offering special offers such as buy one get one free, or buy 6 get two free, whatever you want as long as you can show your fare scale. Separate fares do NOT prevent one person paying the whole amount. eg man and wife where one pays for both, family of six where one pays for all six, providing you can show your fare scale. You can charge what you like how you like.
You do not have to issue tickets, but you should (and the driver of the vehicle when carrying passengers) have enough proof to show you are complying but the method you use is up to you.

Ok, so when you say fare scale, what would one of those comprise of?

You have to charge seperate fares, and you are meant to advertise that fact. So when you quote for a job you are meant to ask how many punters and give a price per person.

I think that's hapened once since the 2000 Act.

I hate to say this but if you can't work out the basics about how to work your fares then perhaps you should think again about going into the limo business. There will be a lot more difficulties before you are done and you don't seem to me to be able to work it out.

Picked up someone today who was quoted £900 for the hire of a hummer for a night.

Firstly is that the norm for them, and secondly what happened about the seperate fare bit?

In some areas, yes that is the norm.

he could have been operating on self drive and that was the cost of hireing the vehicle. The driver would have been extra.

ok, firstly all i ment was what was ment by fare scale. i can work out my own charges etc, and have done so. and as for working things out, as im a manager over 200 staff and work everything out, then i think i can do that, no where did i say work out my fares for me, only asked what was ment by a fare scale.
