The trouble is that the L.As have read that they cannot refuse anyone a license, and have taken it literally that they cannot.

But! at the end of the day it is their system that is failing everyone.

No matter how much you want to do any job, if you are not suited to it, then you should not get it. The biggest problem is that the trade is treated with contempt, a sort of, it is not rocket science and anyone can do it mentality.

Anyone with half a brain cell can see that it is not the case, otherwise we would not be having the problems that we are getting.

Remember it is their system, therefore it is their fault.

Perhaps Bus Lane access would allow him to escape a bit quicker next time?

The big problem is that the same standard of police checks are not applied to foreigners as to UK nationals.

We have an Enhanced CRB check.

They have a letter from the Village policeman/headman to say they are a good person, this gets a stamp on it at the embassy.

All the boxes have been ticked so Licensing Officer can say he's done his job, even if the new driver is a raving nutter.

And it is soooo much less trouble than having to go to court to fight an appeal from raving nutter who has accused him of bias and racism if he refuses to issue a licence.

Level playing field anyone?

I heard a story a few months back about a ph firm in peterborough which has taken on some Albanian drivers who apperently sit in the office bragging about the people they murdered back in albania and about how wonderful britain is for affording them assylum so that they can avoid prosecution and jail back in their own country !
