Anyone care to guess if the following statement is true or false?

??? ??? of the ??? ??? Hackney Carriage Association told the licensing committee that 296 "fatal" accidents had occurred nationally in 2002, involving Hackney Carriages, many occurring as passengers stepped into the road from a sliding door.

The issue in question concerned the licensing of WAV vehicles but in my opinion the statement just shows the extremes and untruths that some people connected with taxi associations will go to in order to misrepresent the facts.

Regards

JD

I don't doubt it was said. As for truth, sounds more like spin to support a certain viewpoint.

Well I suppose there could be 300 or so fatal accidents involving taxis nationawide, but I doubt if many sliding door incidents were involved, but of course the figure for the latter isn't quantified.

If that was the case then I think the gov would have acted well before now.
