I will ask you one simple question, if a driver was found to have a large quantity of heroin in his vehicle and was also found to be supplying them to school children during the course of his working day driving a taxi or private hire vehicle, do you think that he should be allowed to continue driving till after his court case.

No, but it shouldn't be the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker that's says he shouldn't.

It should be a court of law via his bail application.

Of course he can fight that condition in court, and then it will be for the court to decide or direct.

But this should have been done at a far earlier time than a few weeks before the trial. [-(

Question 2 ... as a parent of one on the children that this person had been supplying with heroin, would you expect the council to continue allowing him to drive a Licence vehicle whereby it gives him access to your children...

I would have expected him to have been stopped much earlier by the court which bailed him. If he was likely to continue supplying heroin to schoolkids, then every kid in the city would be smackheads by the time the council took action

I don't think he would be charged with driving a taxi or private hire vehicle, and I don't think they issue him with the licence, but it is obvious that the people in government who actually changed the law were concerned with the loophole in between...

I see you have been to Liverpool, last week a 11 year-old boy was shot dead by a 16 year-old.... I do not have your faith in laws as they stand.

Politicians..... we would need another thread.....

Everything that is happening to luke is interlinked...... and I would be interested and surprised that (if) he was found guilty they would revoked his licence, after all the evidence would still be the same......

I totally agree, but at the same time I would hope that the trade reps in different areas, would have clarified through their trade Meetings what the procedure would be if it were to happen to a driver in their district, and not simply leave it to the council to implement a procedure that they see fit.....

A very good friend of mine ( ) visited a jail the other day.

He said that folks should never ever think they are holiday camps. [-X

I visited Camberwell Green earlier on tonight, you would rather be in Prison than live there . .

Cabbie cleared over chip shop sausage killing
Oct 24 2007 Liverpool Echo

A TAXI driver was today cleared of killing a man who died in a row over a chip shop sausage.

Luke McCormick walked free from Liverpool Crown Court after a judge found there was no case against him.

He ordered a jury to acquit him of manslaughter.

Mr McCormick, 53, of Pennington Avenue, Bootle, had to sit through four days of prosecution evidence against him.

But, as his defence case was set to start this morning, Judge Henry Globe QC, recorder of Liverpool, ruled the trial should go no further.

Mr McCormick was accused of the manslaughter of Gary Jenner, a “gentle giant” from Litherland who died outside Tsang’s takeaway, Bootle, in January.
