No limo theft charges for players

Rob Lee and Warren Barton both played for Newcastle United
Two former England footballers will not be charged over the taking of a luxury private cab they admitted driving off in on a night out, police have said.
Rob Lee, 38, and Warren Barton, 41, were arrested in July after the Mercedes E220 saloon was taken from Hackney Road, east London.

The former Newcastle United stars admitted they drove off in the car when the owner stepped out of the vehicle.

They then allegedly crashed it into a van and fled the scene.

The car was found abandoned on Hackney Road.

Officers said the owner of the car did not want to press any charges against the pair over the taking of the car.

The ex-footballers were told this before they were due to answer bail on Tuesday.

Lee, from West Ham, east London, played for Newcastle United for 10 years and was capped for his country 21 times.

Barton, born in Stoke Newington, played for the Magpies between 1995 and 2002, and played for England three times.

I can remember an occassion a few years ago when a local taxi driver went out to a wedding do at stapleford hall he got out of his car to search for his customers one of whom jumped in the car and drove it around the corner to hide it Followed by calls back to base from the driver reporting the car stolen it took 20 minutes to find out what had happened and the police well even though a string of motoring offences had been committed didn't want to know because it had happened on private property.

The driver then refused to take the customers followed by very abusive phone calls from the customers back to the base ! Eventually the driver was persuaded that it was a long way to go (20 miles) for a no show and picked the fare up.

On reaching the customers house they refused to pay because the taxi was half an hour late !! The police took the customers side and refused to attend the incident

The moral of the story is the customer is always right no matter how appauling their behaviour and the law will always take their side so cabbie beware NEVER leave keys in the ignition not even for a few seconds
