after switching most of their fleet from hack back to PH, (due to the ongoing courtcase) dundee taxi cab company ltd have pulled the ultimate stroke.
they have rented an empty old car sales yard (which happens to be right outside dundee's busiest nite club) and are parking their PH'S on the yard and blatantly plying for hire. reveller's leaving the nite club are being approached by the kingpin of this company with " £1.00 off a taxi coupons " and are ushered into the yard to the PH cars !
to cap it all only the pavement is between this yard and a part-time rank. there is no phone call made to their office, so this is ILLEGAL..no insurance etc: and when you try and rally the so called hardcore operators to approach the LA and police you get nowhere !!
as for trying to contact the cabs enforcement officers...you've got more chance o elvis jumping in the back o your car and asking to be taking home !!
i'm ashamed of my fellow trade workers, and i don't know how they can look in the mirror to shave the face of a man which is obviously connected to the heart of a sheep !! :x

Do you know that theyre not booking the jobs in? if they are then its a good buisness move imo, and they must have an operators license for the plot of course. That can be checked with the LA

latest....i forgot to mention that the PH'S are operating with clear indication that they are in fact a taxi...203020...(the company's phone number) on both sides of the car, and, that they were seen by numerous drivers last nite picking up illegally from various ranks and locations in the city centre.
dundee has to be the laughing stock of the national taxi trade eh ??? :?

Ops licence for the plot is not needed in Scotland. Might need planning permission.

i pcked up two girls from the carriegeway at the jet garage about 3.35this morning, they had two friends who were going in oposite directions who were tryting to flag a cab , they said their goodbyes and i drove around the roundabout and came down the other side of the carrigeway and saw a 203020 private hire picking them up, i couldnt get his number as he was too far away but if i witness this again i will report them, if we all put pressure on the enforcement officer maybe we could get him to put up a sting ,its been done in other citys, even doing it for an hour would get a result, l also saw one of their hacks driving without a roofsign ?

Is the "kingpin" in touch with their base? Hires must be booked in, but they don't have to be done by phone.(e.g. handheld radio) Do they have any sort of booking office on the plot (shed, van, portacabin etc)? Either of these would make what they are doing legal (not moral though). Giving discounts is also allowed.

:x
Is the rank in operation at the times they are using this plot?
Up here we are not allowed to pick up within 50 yards of a rank (during its period of operation if part time). Do you have a similar condition in Dundee?

A couple of photos all the way from sunny Dundee:

Isn't it time for a single licence system, with one set of rules?

AN ABSOLUTE YES

And with numbers limitation but not on the highly rectricted basis of the "old guard".

nice pics good to see they are using the words private hire, when they had the bus station and only had ph vehicles working for them they had a larger sign claiming 203020 taxi rank, pity you couldnt show mr y ushering all the legal punters out of fat sams into the waiting private hires sitting with the passenger door opened, maybe ill give you one
fat sams is the main disco in dundee, but it is also the main one for the under age, i only hope all the cabbies who have delivered to fat sams over the years dont take offence to the owner going with 203020 and start phoning the police every time they drop off an under 18 , if fat sams lose their license fat sams centrel could lose buisness

Is the argument against the council or this private hire company and the way that it operates? Holding a strike or bringing the city to a stand still is more likely to upset the very people you need on your side, the public. Now if someone were to park a great big lorry across the entrance to the club carpark where the private hire operates from and this lorry develops a serious fault so that it would need recovery well that would be a different story.
