So it wasnt circulated to all NTA members about two days after it was recieved?

We can't wait to read all about it in the next edition of Taxitalk magazine although I am of the opinion that Mr Cummins would probably give a more accurate balanced and unbiased interpretation of the facts than yourself. We shall wait and see.

So the largest taxi firm in the UK (possibly the largest in Europe), ComCab based in London, who's bookings are taken in the beautiful country of Scotland, would be acting illegally? :?
No, unless they move the booking office to England

There is no provision in law that allows a private hire driver to legally accept a booking by mobile phone, at the moment hackney carriage drivers operate under different legislation and they can take a booking anywhere in the country by mobile phone. These amendments will bring hackney carriage drivers in line with private hire drivers. I assume Comcab is a radio company based in London which makes provision for calls at their premises and then pass the jobs on to drivers by radio. That is a typical private hire radio circuit setup, which won't change.

PROPOSED AMMENDMENT

(d) No person shall in a controlled district operate any vehicle, “including a hackney carriage” as a private hire vehicle without having a current licence under section 55 of this Act, “issued by the council of the area in which the operator is based”.

Now that Mr Casey has done a Lazarus and risen from the dead perhaps he might like to inform all you hackney carriage drivers out there why he wants to deprive you of the flexibility you have been accustomed to for the last 160 years? He might also like to inform you why he doesn’t think you are important enough to be informed of something that amounts to national importance and goes way beyond mere Taxi association internal affairs?

Perhaps he might like to inform all you people who work Taxi Call systems why he supports these amendments which if implemented will make that activity illegal?

Regards

JD

Their call centre is in Scotland, Aberdeen I think.

I spoke to the PCO about this some time ago and they informed me they have told all radio circuit operators, that they do not need a license under the London private hire act and that they are quite happy with the current arrangements.

Interesting that the PCO hasn't embraced these NALEO changes as a life saving necessity?

I did make enquiries and you are quite correct about the booking being made in Scotland, however if the call centre was based in England or Wales then that would be an offence under the 1976 act. I suspect it would be the call centre that would be prosecuted and not comcab. Perhaps that is why they use a call centre in Scotland.

Comcabs Aberdeen call centre handles calls for Aberdeen and London. I think also Edinburgh as well. The call centre is in the same building as the Aberdeen operation.

With the NTA being so secretive we wouldn't know that would we? You have a website, if you wanted to inform the taxi trade you could have done so by putting the proposals up on the website. Any right minded organisation would have told NALEO where to stick their proposals but no doubt you like these proposals so I suppose that sets you and the rest of the cab trade apart. I forgot, MR T also likes the idea so your in good company.

JD

Who said I liked the proposals?

The discussion document and mooted ideas will be discussed within the NTA AGM in Eastbourne during Conference.

It still looks like a mooted idea, but seeing as its already been circulated within the NTA and it is to be discussed, it seems like someone is doing his job right.

That aside, it is hardly the fault of the NTA that other organisations dont do similar.

Have you been having a sneeky peek at the column in taxitalk?

Seems to me someones a bit peed off

Are you now suggesting the mobile phone, satellite communication and data units were available to cab drivers 160 years ago?

I'm interested in this flexibility of 160 years, I presume that has something about being able to refuse hires because the horse gets tired?

Do you think people who run radio circuits need to be licensed or should they be free to be or employ every Tom, Dick and Cat Burgler?

You are in favour of many of these proposals if not all and that’s a fact. Therefore why can't you be true to your own conscience for once and admit what the rest of the Taxi trade already knows. Any right minded Taxi association delegation would have dismissed these proposals out of hand, instead the NTA said oh yes what a good idea we'll put them to our members for discussion. lol.

So what’s so good about these proposals that are beneficial to the Taxi Trade?

I wasn't aware I was in a hole? I was under the impression it was Mr T who was in the hole? After all, I extracted all the information from Mr T that I required and without him even realising I was picking his pockets?

As for you? I can read you like a book. I wanted you here to account for your actions and for you to tell the majority of the Taxi trade why you and the many others in your minority organisation and especially region 2, think that hackney carriage drivers should be divested of their current right to operate in the way they have been accustomed for the last 160 years?

I knew full well my apology to both you and the NTA would have the desired affect of resurrecting the dieing NTA corpse, however considering how we are accustomed to you running away when the heat is on we won't be surprised when you do it again?

Now that I have you here, perhaps you can divorce your interests as a private hire and hackney carriage radio circuit operator and concentrate on telling those of us who drive hackney carriages, what in your opinion these amendments mean for Hackney carriage drivers and why you support them? That should make interesting reading, however we won't hold our breath when you take the fifth amendment and decline not to answer.

If you were doing your job right you would have disassociated yourself with these proposals in the first instance but because they have the affect of silencing the likes of Berwick you are quite happy to go along with them.

The current freedoms enjoyed by every hack driver in the UK can take a back seat as long as Gladen and Berwick are sunk? You should be a member of NALEO and not the NTA.

We have yet to see just exactly what the NTA has done? After all the NTA is a secret organisation that represents less than 3% of the English and Welsh Taxi trade and it only departs information to its own members.

However you can rest assured that the truth of the matter will come from this website

Quote:

I assume you mean "sneaky" but no doubt you or the NTA membership understand the FULL implications of these proposals, however you can rest assured that any misrepresentation of the facts coming from your hand by way of any article, in any magazine, will be corrected by me.

That should give you some incentive to get your facts right.

I would definitely be peeved off if these amendments ever saw the light of day and so would the majority of the hackney carriage trade but I'm going to do everything within my power to see that they don't see the light of day and you may quote me on that.

It is sometimes difficult to respond to questions to which people already know the answers, however that is your perogative but I did actually advise everyone that you would take the fifth amendment. Your reply confirms your entrenched position in this matter.

"Please explain uncontentious change" for myself and our readers, If we can't get you to explain your reasoning for supporting these amendments, then we will have to settle for your explanation of "uncontentious change" and how it applies to these amendments?

Is it not the responsibility of all trade organisations to make their membership aware of proposals being made which may effect them?

Surely putting out such "proposals" for discussion, and therefore advice from the membership is the professional and conscientious way to conduct their obligations.

You would have got onto your soapbox had representatives not made their members fully and properly aware of such proposals and dismissed them because the representatives didn't agree.

You will use any route possible to berate the activity of such groups, is this because you are envious of their courage of conviction.

Your obvious jealousy of Mr Casey, and the NTA is greatly amusing now .............................. especially when you do little against NATLEO, who you are leading us to believe have made certain proposals, even though you have chose not to disclose what these "proposals" are.

Never mind though .................... like most amateur journalists .............. you don't like the truth getting in the way of a good hate campaign.

B. Lucky :D
