I am making a killing on the Northern Rock shares. I bought £10,000 worth earlier this week at 132 pence each. The price is steadily going up now.

Northern Rock will be closed on every high street within the year. Only invest if you believe its likely a takeover will happen. Takeover and mergers are pretty stagnent in the current credit squeeze.

It is a very brave person though, who invests in a company whose customers are literally queuing up to leave. I would go so far as to say the shares are that volatile right now, that only gamblers would throw money at them.

Ther are no queues to leave Northern Rock any more. You are a bit out of touch mate. There are more and more investers putting their savings back into their accounts now that there are people withdrawing. Do you actually invest in the stock market on a regular basis and study "form" or are you one of those who just listen to news programmes and read newspapers. The "form" guide from my stockbroker is usually very good so I think I will stay with him for now.

MAD - another bank will takeover at about 80p per share. They are banks, they are not daft!

Northern Rock has created vast amounts of employment all over the country as well as sponsoring many charities as well as such things as sports teams hear in the north east (whether you like them or not)

it is sad to see people forget what they have done as a business and many people may loose their jobs through "people panic"

i personally have put my money were my mouth is and put money into a savings account !! i think we should encourage people in our taxis to follow and give positive thoughts about this company. for the benefit of the workers if nothing else !

I have a degree of agreement with what you say, and the bank appears to have strong local links with charities and the like.

Sadly though the bosses took their eye off the ball and lent to people that they really shouldn't have. Eyes bigger than their bellys.

The problem was not with the people that they have lent to. The problem lies in the fact that to satisfy the demand for new mortgages the Northern Rock got a greater proportion of its money from other banks. It is the banking system that has been the problem. There has not been any greater % of defaulters than any other bank. It was new lending that was becoming the problem and this has been sorted by the government guarantee, which by the way has been extended to ALL other lenders now but without the big press coverage.

I'm not so sure about that. :?

They may not have as many defaulters at present, but cos they have lent large amounts to 'sub-prime' folks, hoping to reap large returns on higher rates of interest, I think their future is not good. :?

Is this reply based upon your own thoughts or have you consulted with a stockbroker or a stock market analyst?
