Freedom of Information law means the council only divulges the information it wants you to know. The Act protects any action of the council while it is current. Something to do with operational reasons and the public interest not to know what it is getting up to.

I see so we have a law that should read "freedom of the information that we want to give you."

That would explain it then.

Complaint over taxi crime claims

Taxi drivers claim police have refused to take action

An official complaint is to be made over claims Tayside Police "turn a blind eye" to private hire cab companies breaking licensing rules.

Taxi drivers' representatives plan to write to the chief constable to question the force's conduct.

They claim officers have not investigated reports of private hire drivers routinely touting for business in the streets.

The allegation has been denied by Tayside Police.

Graeme Stephen from the Dundee Taxi Owners Association said: "I'll be writing a letter to the chief constable listing all our concerns with Tayside Police.

"They are not cracking down on touts."

Taxi drivers in Dundee are embroiled in a bitter dispute with the authorities over a number of issues, including private hire firms.

They have staged rolling road blocks in the city centre at peak times, and threatened more industrial action.

The private hire complaint was on the agenda at recent talks with Dundee City Council's taxi liaison group, which collapsed when trade representatives walked out.

Officers from Tayside Police told the meeting that there was no evidence of any laws being broken.

A spokeswoman for Tayside Police said: "If anyone has complaints about standard of service, they can make an official complaint which will be fully investigated."

Graham Stephen was a PH operator he was an active member of the Dundee Private Hire Association along with Eric Thorosen they did all the same things which they are complaining about now and funny enough they also addressed the meeting in 1991 to open up the city which happened,then they suddenly became active in trying to close the door on other people who only want to do what they are doing trying to earn a living, DOUBLE STANDARDS, you tell me who is right ?

Can't remember Graham Stephen or Erik Thoresen standing outside De Stihls ushering people into their ph's.........can you ??

No they did'nt do that but they did pick up on the street like all the rest of the PH's were doing at the time.

Wether we like it or not Dave Young is ahead of the game when it comes to promoting his company,look at the recent adds in the local press tell me when was the last time you seen Tele's/Handy's doing anything like that.

The Fat Sams idea in nothing short of brilliant, what are the owners of our companies doing, NOTHING a big fat ZILCH!!

While we are being conned into this 203020 thing by a few street cars the owners at Tele's/Handys are getting an easy time we should be DEMANDING money to be spent to market the company to at least compete for the work.

No the council did not give them a year,when it came to light they were given a 21 day period to prove otherwise.

As stated in the press Dave Young never knew he was in the wrong they then discussed the situation with their lawyers and the advice given was the plates go back.

I believe a negotiated period allowed 203020 to change over the plates this was not down to helping them only because the council could not test all the vechicles involved over a few days.

What we have in the city is a band of street cars led by a couple of TAXI RANK LAWYERS (that's what they think they are)who it's more than obvious have a vendetta against Dave Young, now while some of you may think I am defending Mr Young nothing could be further from the truth.

We should be worrying about why are we constantly losing work to Mr Young,once again I say what are our bosses doing to generate more work and maybe get back some that have been lost to 203020.

To check what I have printed regarding the council go into the support services at Dundee City Council and do what I HAVE DONE ask the question!

Just to close why is it the only people using the phrase "TAXI WAR" is our so called leaders??

Well how about the Tax Reference Number, yes their demand that it be included on the operator / driver forms............I still cannot believe that they got away with it,well the next couple of years will have lot's of guy's squealing because of it,remember what I'm saying it will happen.

How many will turn up at the Dee Club on Tuesday.....a lot less than the first meeting say about 30/50 and most of them will be drivers.

I can't work out the complaint about Mr Young being on the liason group because he doesn't have a plate or badge.

If the company owns seventy vehicles then surely they have a legitimate case to be heard, and since a company can't sit round a table then it must have someone representing it?

And what's the complaint about the knowledge test, is it too easy or too difficult or what?

So the trade thinks the Lord Provost's remarks about "theatrical gestures" is helping thieir case?
