i think this is a York stn rank thing, make hay while the sun shines, cos some believe cos its a private rank they can do what they like and have been getting away with it for years[/quote]

I got in at Duncombe place last week 6.45 in the evening and the driver went straight on to tarrif 2, when I questioned this he said "oh sorry I must have caught it when I turned it on" When I said "I have the same meter, and you turn it on in the top right hand corner, and alter the tarrif in the bottom left hand corner which is 6 inches away how can you accidentally catch it" a silent journey followed, I asked for a receipt showing fare and tarrif I received one for an amount less the 70p which has been forwarded to taxi licensing, so if you drive a passat and are reading this, PANIC they are on their way to see you.

even if your meter is calender control, there is nothing to stop you using/pressing the first button on a digitax f2 to engage t2 at any time of day

When a meter is calender control all buttons, other than stop and start, are made redundant.

I was made redundant twice. Not nice.

But if I was made to get one because some greedy git was overcharging, he would pay for my new meter ten times over.

Some of our less honest drivers were charging Tarrif 2 during the day the punters complained to the council and all the meters were time locked, which we all had to pay for!

In London, the meters are sealed and time controlled. The drivers can not change the tarrif. Simple solution

So is this the same for all calendar meters everywhere?

If an LA has a fare structure that includes lots of extras then presumably they have to dump them if they want to make calendar meters compulsory?

That must go down well

And how are the Brighton extras for additional passengers (60p for each beyond four) and telephone bookings (20p) handled?

Depends on the level of control allowed by the LA. Ours have the main tariffs locked by date and time. Extras can still be added. If the cab is plated for 5 or more passengers, this rate is selected manually (only programmed into meters where they are so licenced.)

I suppose the only extras that can't be accommodated on CC meters are for extra punters, estate car requests or luggage.

The rest can all be put on CC meters.

I think the beyond four cars are allowed three clicks of the 20p extras, and as far as I'm aware the firms don't charge the booking fee.

But if they did cars would be allowed to click just the once. Well they could click a thousand times but only 20p would appear.

What about pets, prams and bicycles etc, which are all specifically mentioned in tariff cards elsewhere. :D

Any more bizarre extras?

They are all banned by section 53 of the Sussex Act 2007.
