There was a big article about it in today's Courier, it said an application has been lodged to create a "passenger collection area".

The architects handling the application say that they would have to give it up if the planning bid failed, and that the "planning department has asked the company to regularise the position that currently exists".

He said "the applicant has been operating without the relevant planning permission".

The DTA chairman Mr Stephen said: "A 'passenger collection area' like this could be open to abuse by people just driving in pretending to be PH operators."

It's quite a big story, can't be bothered typing it all out, but that's the main bits.

Don't know about this planning business, this must be what they call retrospective planning permission??

The thing is with planning permission anyone can object..... the more objections the less likely it is to succeed!!

if the planning decision is being decided by planing and transport they will get it,a few years ago i put a story on the old website about the head of planing and transport mike galloway, the 507 hacks had just paid £50 each for a survay to take place but nobody new which company was doing the survey,i phoned the council who told me planing and transport were handling it,i phoned them and spoke to mike galloway who sais his department was not handling it,i phoned the council again who said to phone him back as it was his department, when i phoned his receptionist answered, she said he was either busy or not in,this went on daily for a week i eventually said i was going to the papers to complain ,two mins later he was on the phone,i asked which company was handling the survey he said that is not public info,i then asked why he denied he was handling the survey .he denied saying that
i put all this online and about half an hour later larry duncan who was in a senior position with 203020 came on and gave the name of the company,
i wrote to the local press but they never printed it,since that i record all my conversations with any council personel

Looks like the strike is on again:

Big-match revellers face taxi strike

By Graeme Strachan

Dundee taxi drivers voted to take strike action on one of the busiest weekends of the year after crisis talks broke down with the council yesterday.

The six-hour strike will start at midnight on Saturday.

It follows a meeting of drivers at the Dee Club last night.

Scotland play Italy in a do-or-die Euro 2008 qualifier on Saturday, and pubs and clubs expect one of the busiest days they have had.

People staying in the pub until closing time or going on to a club would bear the brunt of the protest.

With around 100 drivers at last night’s meeting and 559 taxis on the roads it remains to be seen whether the strike action will gain widespread support.

The decision came after taxi leaders emerged from a meeting with senior council officials saying talks had got them “nowhere”.

Peter Longmuir from the Unite union chaired last night’s meeting and said it was with a heavy heart that drivers had decided to vote on taking industrial action.

He said it was not planned to take place on one of the busiest weekends of the year but it was the last resort as drivers who are working 16 and 17-hour days were at the end of their tether.

“There were four or six drivers against but the majority were in favour of striking,” he said.

“The meeting we had with the council two weeks ago was very productive and we thought we were getting somewhere but at the meeting today we got nothing.

“They just kept saying we can’t do this, we can’t do that and advising us to consult lawyers, but if you go to lawyers it takes longer to get to the final conclusion.

“It wasn’t meant to happen this Saturday, but what do you do? We went in there open-minded but I’m afraid they just really didn’t take any notice.”

He added, “Nobody wants to strike, especially this Saturday.

“People who go out for a meal and a drink will have time to get home before 12 and the old women going to the bingo can get taxis, but it really is unfortunate.

“This is the last resort and could escalate other things like rolling roadblocks.”

Among issues discussed at the meeting at City Chambers yesterday was whether a cap on taxi licences could be implemented, such as was operated in Perth.

Dundee Taxi Association chairman Graeme Stephen said there were too many cabs on the road and drivers were struggling to make a living.

However, he felt the council had not even countenanced the possibility of introducing a cap on both yellow plate cabs and private hire vehicles, and he felt “things could get worse before they get better.”

Council chief executive Alex Stephen led negotiations on behalf of the local authority but declined to comment on the meeting.

However, a spokesman for the council did later release a statement saying, “The council has offered to continue discussions but the issues being raised will take time to resolve and take forward constructively. The city council hopes this will be accepted and meetings can continue.”

this is going to be the biggest mistake the dta has ever made, they are now down to 100 per meeting ,sat will be one of the biggest football nights for decades, everyone even women will be watching and we will spoil it for what?we want the town closed?we want the town closed?,thats what its all about now,ask any of the cabbies about the oft report or ask for taxi figures and its we want the town closed, some of the cabbies at the meeting were quoting 2000 taxis on the road,i work through the biggest company 170 plus, mon night we struggled with 40 cabs, thurs sun usually 60,the reason, a lot are single shifted, close the town everybody gets drivers 100 cabs every weekday, ill go on strike on sat but if they dont get enough strikers the council plus the dundee public will laugh at them and the council will be in a position to ignore them yet again

Dundee reinforces the need to remove quantity restrictions.

Making taxis more readily available is the only way to deal with private hire. The public turn to private hire because they are unrestricted and more available. And every customer "captured" by PH is encouraged to use them again, customer loyalty ensuring that hacks lose out.

I understand from the news that dundee taxi owners are complaining that there are too many hacks. Doesn't that sound more like a vested interest squealing rather than business logic?

I hope the strike failes. It is futile. All irt will do is hack the public off and turn to the very PH that is the source of the hacks' problems.

Why is it the numpties who reach positions of influence in our trade?

We're sitting on the ranks for half and hour, sometimes three quarters of an hour during the day and we get one job then have to come all the way back again.

Wolverhampton:

At the moment we’re sitting for two to three hours between each job.

So they have about four times the work in Dundee as compared to Wolverhampton?

You do have to wonder why anyone would sit for 3 or 4 hours between every job. :-k

Unless of course each job is a 100+ miles.

Its an absolute joke IMHO

"Strike"...........pmsl

So will they be striking the proper way by picketing ranks etc.???

Think Not!

So what they are actually doing is not "Striking" its finishing early!!

I am actually a PH driver for 203020 and its hilarious when I sit and watch drivers having a moan to the Police about the barrier that they put up @ the junction into Fat Sams, then they point the finger etc at us "like we care" .

Honestly some of the mentality of these Hacks has to be questioned for example last week alone i was subject to harassment (quite funny actually) :D

1st :- Dropping off @ Fatties a group of folk right outside the door, when the lad in the front says " m8 I will be getting back in just gonna talk to meh m8's on the door......keep meter running, cheers", so I'm like no problem, when from the corner of the junction a woman who pulls of in her big 7 seater WAV approaches up to the side of the car asking what I was doing?

I was like ok here we go (bearing in mind this same woman used to "work" for 203020 for about 2 weeks or something and has really just "come out the wrapper" in terms of driving Taxi's) & has left pretty sharpish after being put thru her test with 203020.

Woman: So anyway she says "Errr are you waitin on someone to pick up?"

Moi: " Eh? Technically yes, waitin on lad getting back in"

Woman: "Well yer mean't to move on once you drop off! You're not allowed to do that!"

Moi: "Good Ane!" then window quietly & promptly comes up to the drone of her saying "I will just check with the driver over there that that happens then"

2nd:- Pick-up outside Jet Gargage for customer round corner from Fat Sams.

Moi: Stops and ask question "Name please?"

Customer: "C******E"

Moi: "Great in ya pop"

When hear a guy tooting his Doblo horn from inside the garage @ me, so I got out the car just to clarify exactly what he wanted and he was like "You jist picked up aff the street!"

Moi: "You wanna check the job on my screen?"

Another one just in job 5 mins!

Nuff Said!

Anyway there seems to be a few Hacks who just don't kno what the heck they are talking about and have just jumped on the band wagon cos they want to cause trouble or think they are cool, or whatever reason.

So I cant wait to see the response tomoz night, think a lot of hacks will be working the streets ....................no?

Cheers

Jock

All 105 black cabs will stop working between midnight tonight and 6am, and then from 4pm tomorrow until 6am on Sunday.

Fact..Above is number of hackneys licensed in wolverhampton
Fact..Population of Wolverhampton..236000
Fact..570..number of licensed hackneys in Dundee
Fact..Population of Dundee..135000

work it out for yourself...it's not so hard to see we're getting shafted coz they're still issuing plates... ](*,)
