tx op a word of advice i know how your feeling right now but posts like the one they are all talking about doesnt help,iv,e been on this site since it started and i was on the old one and what happens is you will get your ip adress banned, this will leave you even more annoyed as you can read what others are saying but cant reply
i went on strike sat night and attended the tesco meeting,i was very impressed with the amount of cabbies who stuck together, a lot weren,t wanting to go on strike (myself included) but they did it at their own cost and gave the dta the biggest support they have ever had, what imressed me even more was the publics response,i worked sun night expecting to make little money and get my head nipped from all passengers about the strike,i was wrong i made more money than usual plus every fare i picked up not only mentioned the strike but said they were behind us,its a pity we didn,t get that support from the 60 scabs who thought earning an extra £100 bucks was more important than their trades wellfare,
i was working last night and there was talk on the ranks of doing a report on all the names on the scab list (amount of drivers on car/hours etc)sending one copy to the inland revenue plus one to the social,
on my way home from tesco i saw a guy driving with his roof sign still on top of the cab,i know that this guy is on benefits and if his name is on that list all will know his little secret,
the though of somebody claiming benefits taking money from our trade then sticking two fingers up at us on the what was one of the biggest taxi related events in dundee by not striking woul;d really make my blood boil,
we should think really carefully about any future strikes as public support will fall ,this is their good mood season chrismas shopping etc we dont want to push our luck,i see the aberdeen court case (right to put on a salloon instead of wav)is on the 20/12/07 if won all the dundee wavs will be looking for salloon plates which in turn will bring in the all wav policy, maybe we should wait untill after the case before any more strikes
This is breath taking. You're creating an internecine war when its not necessary.
Cabbies like to think of them selves as "businessmen".
Give me one example of a business that withdraws its services to its customers to make a point.
As for those who went on strike despite disagreeing with it. What a bunch of weaklings. How can anyone with modicum of integrity take part in an action they disagreed with. Supposedly to maintain solidarity with an organisation that is only perpetuating a selfish vested interest. You guys have got to get real.
De-restriction brings with it change. If you want the reward of market demand determining the level of supply, and the reward of containing an unfettered competition, then there is a pain barrier to go through. The situation needs time to settle. The DTA, byu asking the council to renege on de-restriction and stop issuing further licences is doing little more than handing the initiative back to the PH competition they're trying to contain. That is just plain stupid.
As I see it from afar, the only professional personal carriers in Dundee are the Private Hire. All they're doing is competing according to the rules while the hack trade is behaving like spoiled children.
