I really like this bit JD, it just shows what Stirling work and information you provide, and Dusty and Alex and all the other contributors

Thanx Skippy, I'm sure Alex and Dusty will be grateful for those comments. You do your share too, as do most on here.

Got this via e-mail from a TDO member, and it sheds a little light on Aberdeen council's position.

Alex

Dear Sir,

Section 10(2) of the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982 states that a Council shall not grant a taxi licence unless they are satisfied that the vehicle is suitable in type size and design for use as a taxi. It is therefore left up to each Council to decide whether a particular design of taxi is acceptable for use as a wheelchair accessible taxi in its area.

Thank you for this contribution whoever you are, it is most welcome and may you continue to enjoy the facilities of this website.

Regards

JD

Sounds like it came from Donald Macleod, solicitor to the licencing committee.

It was sent to a TDO member, who forwarded it on to me, along with this report.

27th June 2005 Report

I'm on record in the past as saying the council will probably win this case, I haven't changed my opinion but does anyone else have an opinion?

Regards

Clearly WAVs are more expensive to buy and run.

So which cost base is used when setting the tariff in dual vehicle type LAs like Aberdeen?

If the lower cost saloon types, then the tariff surely doesn't cover the added cost of running a WAV.

If the higher WAV cost base, then those operating the saloon types are making extra profit.

Fair?

They only have 1 tariff for all, but they can charge 50% more for over 4 passengers

Fare and a half for over 4 customers was only introduced about 6 weeks ago!!
I have been driving a WAV for 9 years and think it should be same for all!

Seems a hell of a hike for just having an extra passenger or two. Do PH get the same deal for people carriers?

Still cheaper than two cars.

But I'm not too sure isn't open to abuse from the small section of bad folks we have. :-$

With all the fuss about the sheriff's decision in renfrewshire, Jim Wilson's case seems to have been forgotten. I believe it was at the court of session yesterday. Anyone heard what happened?

The case should be interesting now we have studied the relevant sections. I would have thought Mr Wilson had an extremely good chance of winning if his case is similar to the Renfrewshire case.
