I was informed on Monday that the response to the OFT report would not be published this week. Today I was informed the publication might be delayed until after next week.

I have always said my last post would be on the 12th March in response to this Government report. However, it looks like it might drag on for some time so I’ll make this my last goodbye.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the debates over the last few weeks; I enjoyed exchanging facts and opinions with you all.

Opinions vary on a diverse range of subjects but that is always a healthy sign when participating in debate. I hope some of you have gleaned a little knowledge from some of the opinions and facts I have debated with you. I can honestly say that thanks to you all, I leave this forum a little wiser than when I first entered.

I would like to say special congratulations to the team who put the TDO report together, I thought it was first class and what’s more, it was factual. I know how many hours you must have spent putting it together. As I have said before, you deserve the highest praise.

I hope the forum goes from strength to strength, I’m sure it will. You can rest assured I shall do everything in my power to promote the forum from my neck of the woods.

It just remains for me to say good bye to one and all but before I go, I would like to give you a little insight into what can be achieved if you do it right.

Everyone in this forum probably takes for granted the relatively cheap cost of accessing the Internet. Well, I have to tell you that it didn’t come easy. The organisation that brought you flat rate Internet access, or as we call it, unmetered telecommunications, campaigned for nearly three years to bring it about. We had to educate and hound both OFTEL and Government, until we finally got unmetered dial up access.

I just wanted you to know what can be achieved if you go about it the right way. The organisation having reached its goal is now dissolved but we left behind our legacy, so that others can see the contribution made by so few in order that so many could benefit from our endeavours.

Best wishes, for the last time.

John Davies

John, I don't suppose your source gave you any idea about the outcome. :?

I heard today a new "committee" will be formed to talk about the report and reply.
I personally have never heard of this procedure so if I outline the rather fuzzy detail perhaps it may ring a bell with someone.
There are supposedly 40 designated speakers for various items in parliament, made up from all sides, but predominantly Labour. These names will be selected at random to read and then argue the case. My source does not know if they act independently or under the whip. But it seems as though our futures might be in the hands of 10 M.Ps.
Has anybody heard anything of this?
Ged

lol I didn't ask Alex. I think I would have got the proverbial no comment. I wouldn't put them in that awkward situation.

I was informed on Monday that Ministers were still discussing the response and it and it may not be forthcoming this week. If it was forthcoming it would be towards the latter end of the week. Yesterday I was informed it may not even be next week.

The conclusion I draw from it all, is this. If the OFT report was going to be rejected I think a response rejecting it would have been a formality. The fact that it has now reached a stage where the response is due and if my memory serves me well I believe the DTI are on record as saying they will respond, I can only draw the conclusion that something other than rejection is afoot. The longer it goes without a response I would have thought rejection was unlikely. I'm only saying that because I believe as I have previously stated, Rejecting the report would be a formality.

Can I go now? lol

Take care and good luck.

JD

The maturity of Mr Nidge shows through again.

I am sure Alex and Dusty are gutted to lose a contributor that is a) extremely well informed b) open minded and likes to gather the full information c) doesn't seem to carry narrow minded vendettas.

Who exactly is John Davies?

I think the problem with Nigel is he doesn't like the truth.

He doesn't like it when people don't believe his fables.

Take Watford Station, if it's wasn't for John, then the T&G's and Nigel's fables might have been seen by some as the truth.

Then we had the letter to Nigel from Mr Cope at the DfT, but when John asked Mr Cope about that, it was again confirmed as one of Nigel's fables.

Thankfully it wasn't Nigel that made John take a little sabbatical from TDO, it was John, and I thank him for his contribution, and will be surprised if he doesn't pop back every now and again.

If for no other reason, than he will owe me a £1.

I was informed on March 3, at the time I saw my MP Des Turner, that the report would not be out until the end of March. There was no secret about this at all. In fact, as I thought it was common knowledge I had disregarded the date of the 11th. So it wasnt any secret at all.
