Man in court over taxi car-jacking

A suspected car-jacker was due in court today accused of stealing a cabbie's taxi.

The alleged carjacking is said to have taken place in Prince Edward Road, South Shields, in the early hours of yesterday.

The police helicopter was scrambled to track the car as it drove towards Sunderland. It eventually stopped in the Hendon area of the city and a man was arrested.

Craig Adams, 20, of Manet Gardens, South Shields was to appear at South Tyneside Magistrates' Court this morning, charged with robbery, dangerous driving, driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop, driving with no insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

I would say 12 months suspended, depending on his previous. Oh, and a two year driving ban.
