The first weekend after the closing of the loophole which some say existed in respect of section 75.1B of the Local Government miscellaneous provisions act 1976, saw a serious decline in party limousines from the streets of Manchester.

One was hard pressed to spot any of the elongated luxury limos that normally adorn the streets of Manchester City Centre at weekends. This might suggest that limo operators are fully aware of the consequences regarding unlicensed limos and their drivers.

In Manchester, limos licensed under private hire legislation are required to display a P/H license plate similar to that found on normal taxi private hire vehicles. Limos licensed under PSV legislation would normally need to display a disc of some sort for identification but all in all, any limousine that does not display a passenger carrying identification mark of one form another when carrying fare paying passengers, might well be breaking the law.

Regards

JD

Maybe it's the time of the year but I haven't seen a stretch limo for at least a fortnight. \:D/

Saw something strange at T4 Heathrow this morning and that was some old bird holding up a board for Guys Hospital Patient Transport.

Work that bugger out. :?

I live in a small town. On Saturday night I saw one white Hummer, 1 black Hummer, an early model black Lincoln Towncar, a white Millenium limo and of course one of my own limos. Maybe this is why therte were none in Manchester.

Considering the licensing process is quite straightforward I suspect it won't be long before all these guys are up to speed and enjoying the fruits of their labour. Although I do think some passengers who fail to wear their seatbelts might get a rude awakening if ever they are pulled by an officious Mr Plod.

Come to think of it, I have never read, or heard about any taxi passenger being prosecuted for not wearing a seat belt inside a cab?

Regards

Many cops are unsure of the law re cabs. They know drivers are exempt but are unsure about passengers.

Do you think cops should be as absent minded in respect of limos and novelty vehicles such as fire engines when it comes to seat belts or does anyone think the police should enforce a law that they currently don't enforce in respect of cabs?

Not at all. They should know the law as well as anyone and should enforce it without fear or favour. Unfortunately this is not always the case.
