Our LA currently have no WAV policy or plate restrictions. The fleet appears to comprise, at a guess, about 15% WAVs.

Some drivers get WAVs at changeover time, some move away from WAVs at changeover time. As long as the vehicles are priced competetively, the driver's perception of the market will lead him to buy one if he thinks he will gain. If he doesn't think he will get a return on his investment, he won't buy one.

As far as I'm aware we don't have any unmet demand issues for WAVs and therefore the LA have no reason to intervene. Intelligent local government having regard to the evidence of supply and demand economics.

Yes, but if you had a change of policy that required a 30, 40, or 50% level of WAV's who would draw the short straw? Really do hope you retain the present policy, sounds sensible.

You mean freedom of choice for skippy, but no freedom for new plate holders.

No TDO, I already have a choice by being able to buy what i can afford.
If every area in the UK derestricted it would give everybody a chance to buy what they can afford not what councils say they can.
The Borders have quite a few Wavs that are not taxis or PH they are run by small companies like mobility assist.
there must be something similar in most area's
most people who are in a wheelchair normaly plan there day so if they need a taxi, saloon or WAV they will phone normaly in advance.
In areas that are all WAV i would say that most drivers in them areas never see a wheelchair in the back of the cab from 1 year to the next.
So here is plan A and possibly a business venture that could work. go around all the disability companies or organisations and work out how many wheelchair users are in your area then get the wav of your choice and start a dedicated service this leaves the taxis to choose what vehicles to own and run.
That's what disability assist did and they dont interfere with taxi work at all and have a thriving business and they dont need to be licenced as hack or PH well not in Scotland

I think if a council deems that a certain % of owners must have WAVs, then that % should be 100%.

Maybe part of the reason that in some areas the trade is divided is because in some areas some drivers think they are better than their colleagues.

Have you ever read any Jack Kerouac Skippy? no? well you should he would be an inspiration for you no really he would he often wrote whole pages without any punctuation or anything like full stops and commas you know the sort of things normal people use to break up sentences he even wrote a whole book on one long piece of paper I can't remember what the book was called but it was probably hailed as brilliant by critics but most people could not work out what the bloody thing was all about hunter s thompson who wrote fear and loathing in las vegas was a bit like that as well but I have been there and I niether felt fear or loathing so he got it wrong I thought I would just write this to hopefully distract people from the utter claptrap you have written above dissability assist would need to be licensed this side of the border so that otherwise utterly brilliant theory of yours is about as useful as an ashtray on a motor cycle is it not

Skippy is merely trying to obfuscate on the fact that he wants one rule to apply to him and another rule to apply to others re the WAV issue.

In fact much like you've been doing yourself for the last few years jimbo
