its ok doing a course like this re awkward customers by the railway people, its ok for them as they have back up, but in a taxi you are on your own, some people you cannot reason with

Don't forget you can reclaim 90% of the costs the council should have the leaflets for doing so. :D
And you should ask them if you could get a 50% reduction in licence fee's if you pass, after all you you will have been to school and are now a professional driver :wink: :wink:

Councils issue licenses, they don't supply employment. I suppose if a person feels that they need to develop customer skills in communication then by all means take a course in that which you feel Inadequate. Most of us feel comfortable with the way we communicate with passengers and we don't need to be taught how to be civil. If a passenger is being abusive then you certainly don't have to put up with their nonsense, what you do is entirely up to yourself just as long as you remain within the law.

If you go into a shop and start being abusive the shopkeeper won't pacify you, he will more than likely tell you to get out or phone the police.

I don't believe in meaningless courses that teach you nothing and have no relevance to the performance of your job. To me they are just a waste of time. Whether or not this is one such course I do not know but if you can't put a wheelchair in a cab in the correct manner or treat passengers as they treat you then that is obviously something that you need to work on.

If you get a certificate for such basic things as being able to stow a wheelchair correctly and speak to passengers in a civil manner then there is something decidedly wrong with our education system

just done the nvq. weve got the council to give us a 3 year lic (worth £75.00) and a discount with norwich union insurance. i think it should be brought in for all new drivers in every town as well as the normal tests. after nearly 20 years doing the job i never learned a lot but a lot will i think, and as it has a english test at start thats a bonus.

What did you do in the NVQ?

How did you approach the council? Did you get them to agree to a 3 year licence in advance of doing the NVQ or did you go to them afterwards and say, eg, 'I've done the NVQ, will you now give me a 3 year licence?'

the t&g sorted it out................. got the funding for the local collage and got the deal with the council so all we got to do was turn up. when its like that your only giving up some time, so its worth doing for the sake of it

I don't know why customer care was mentioned twice but in observation of the other items taken in chronological order starting with street knowledge and route planning, my observation is this, I was under the impression that before you obtained a badge you are supposed to know where you are going so what is the purpose of street knowledge for existing cabbies?

I'll let somebody else comment on the other points of reference because i would be too critical lol.

I just wonder what levels three, four and five will consist of, assuming these people can find someone knowledgeable enough to deliver them? lol
