I'm not doubting you Mr BB, however you would think common sense in 2008 would dictate that you keep your keys in your pocket, as opposed to the ignigtion.

The minute I leave the Taxi, even if it's for seconds, the door's are locked.

There's some drivers out there that attract little sympathy.

The torquay arson....is that the one where the vehicle was off the road for a few months in need of repair and where the driver was able to move the cab he was renting out of the way of the fire?

And was the driver attacked?

heres the story'

DRIVER 'DEVASTATED' AS TAXI TORCHED
Be the first reader to comment on this story

11:00 - 05 March 2008

A taxi driver's out-of-action cab was torched by arsonists in Torquay early yesterday.

Police were alerted by firefighters who were suspicious about the cause of the blaze, which wrecked James Bird's Mitsubishi Carisma in Barton Hill Road.It is thought the offenders smashed the windscreen before starting the fire inside the vehicle, which had been off the road since Christmas.

The alarm was raised just before 12.30am by James's colleague, who was driving past when he saw flames coming from the vehicle.

He rang 999 and James, who was able to move his rented cab away from the flames which were in danger of spreading to the second vehicle.

James's sister, Marie Foxhall, who lives in Southway Avenue, just off Barton Hill Road, said: "The car then exploded and rattled the windows of our home. James is devastated by what's happened."

Watch commander Dave Crawford said there was no obvious causes of ignition for the fire as the vehicle's battery was flat.

He suspected the fire started in the front seat area around the dashboard.

Michelle said the car had not been used because James was saving up to fix a fault with its turbo.

Police investigating the incident were due to speak to James and other witnesses yesterday.

Anyone with information should ring police on 08452 777444, quoting log 27.

One fire crew attended the scene where they used a hosereel to extinguish the blaze.

Now you're trying to let facts get in the way of numbers again.

The Rochdale beer bottle attack....now was this driver attacked for being a cab driver or attacked because he was actually trying to stop a crime?

Taxi driver hit with beer bottle

6/ 3/2008

A TAXI driver who chased armed robbers was left with severe facial injuries after they threw a bottle at him.

Dad of four Mohammed Rafiq, 35, was just finishing his shift in the early hours when he spotted two youths armed with a knife threatening service station staff.

He called police and tried to follow the pair in his car as they fled on foot from Marland Texaco on Bolton Road, Rochdale.

But he was hit in the face by a bottle which smashed through the window of his car.

The attack happened in Thirlmere Road at about 3.40am on Monday.

Mr Rafiq said: "They were about 40 or 50 yards away from me when one ran towards me and threw a bottle at the passenger window.

"He must have thrown it really hard because it smashed through the window and hit me on the left side of my forehead and my eye.

"It started bleeding which meant I couldn't see properly. I was on the phone to the police at the time so I told them to send an ambulance as well.

"I ended up with about 17 stitches around my eye and I'll be off work for a while."

No-one from the petrol station was injured.

DC Nick Price, of Rochdale CID, said: "The culprits should be ashamed of themselves. Their actions left an innocent man with serious facial injuries and they put the cashier at the service station through a traumatic ordeal. They clearly have no regard for the distress they have caused with this senseless attack.

"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed either incident to come forward as soon as possible. In particular, we want to hear from a woman who was at the garage at the time of the robbery."

Both attackers were white. The youth carrying the knife was about 5ft 9in, 16 or 17, slim with short dark hair. He was wearing a black tracksuit.

The other robber was about 15, slim with short-brown hair. He had a rash on both sides of his neck and was wearing black tracksuit bottoms with a cream round-neck jumper.

I notice you have included a lot of London locations.

I'd have to say that the LTDA haven't heard about any of these incidents. Am I to assume your'e talking about Minicab incidents opposed to Taxi incidents with Don Glave's list?

Attacks don't really happen in my trade MrBB, in fact they're very rare indeed.

It was a couple of simple questions to clarify a few points, one about your London statistics, and another by CC, asking what has Dublin got to do with it? You may as well keep going and include New Jersey.

No need to get riled Mr BB.

Don't worry Mr BB.. the cab trade are used to picking up the pieces after the idiots have made fools of themselves........ correct information does not get pulled apart..... and the people who judge the information presented to them are not fools......

Tell me d'you think that if a persons religion forbids him to drink and he does not,, will he truly understand how to deal with a drunk

but no one wants to see drivers get attacked.... so good luck...

If you want those in power to take notice of your campaign, would it not be better to get the facts right first? If CC and GBC can pick these cases out from your list, so can government departments. You should check them all again and remove the one's which aren't relevant. It detracts from the one's that are, and there are plenty of these.
