Very well, then let us write our own National Cab Act.

This sounds like a new string !!!

Mine would be;
1) Ban runners, spewers, gobby gits, mouthy kids and the like.

2) Make councils act sensibly, treat drivers as they treat the others.

3) Subsidies for this, that and the other.

4) Ban scruffy, smelly customers and drivers.

5) Get rid of the stupid fire extinguishers and first aid boxes. No one really cares, apart from those who job it is to be a job worth.

6) Allow me to out to work in the evening without the fear of having my throat cut. :(

Our enforcement are frightened to work late at night for fear of an attack, pity help them if they had to do our job, still to get the council to admit that people are in real danger in their area when it would lead to them having to spend money, reduce revenue or increase fares to take into account the constant threat of violence, and I can't see them doing that.

Well they might but before you ask, get a target of what you want to achieve.

do you drive salloons? do you want to contimue doing so? because if you lay it on thick compulsory partitions are likely.

remember licensing enforcement are not in cars doing work, and you get some awfull people that they have to enforce its much more dangerous job than ours, some go mental when served with a prohibition notice.

be very carefull how you approach your request.

I think both Natphleo and the Local Gov Ass have given guidelines to LOs saying that if they go out after 10.00pm, they must be accompanied by the police.

As the police have got one or two things of their own to do at that time, hence the free for all. :(

Well I can only go from my own experience. Which is that girls in my office receive dozen of calls a day from customers, asking specifically that a WAV is not sent.

Perhaps they haven't tried, but some customers really don't like them.

Frankly, I entirely disagree. We have a number of customers who find it very painful. And, if London Cabs or conversions were forced upon them, they simply wouldn't use taxis at all.

As things stand, such legislation would simply move more into the PH market.

To force all taxis to be WAVs, and then to adopt a single-tier system, would simply be [edited by admin] money up the wall, for no appreciable gain, and inflicting more suffering on some of the disabled who are not fully wheelchair bound. There has to be a sensible middle-ground.

A few years back I put a batch of Fiat Multiplas on my fleet. I thought they would make an ideal taxi, very very spacious, the option of a fifth seat when required. I also thought they would be a good 'brand' image.

Within months we had lost a large section of our 'old lady' customer base. Only one bothered to ring me and say why she didn't want to use us. Many didn't want to 'cause a problem ' by saying don't send one. Most just stopped ringing.

I still see two or three of our old 'regulars' getting into competitors cars every week.

In defence of the Fiat, the taller elderly folks loved it because they could slid in and out, but they are in the minority.

About five years ago, just after the DDA, I was approach by a salesman for LTI, cutely telling me that I would soon 'have to buy' his vehicles. He wanted to arrange a demonstration for me. I suggested that when he turned up we should take his 'cab' to an old folks home and let them compare it with a saloon. He declined my offer, apparently a demonstration couldn't include a 'customer assessment'.

well there is of course but you havnt read what I have been saying, beccause as you have said before if they cannot get into your cab without assistance you dont want to know

the back loading vehicles, but its comming soon all public and all private hire will be accessible, that day cannot come soon enough.

beccause c-gull folk like you are making it inevitable.
