Mmmmm... Sounds to me like you have jumped into a trade of which you have absolutely no knowledge of:

1. Not knowing all the locations, specific roads etc.

Doomed to failure!!!!!!!!

And Sharky if you feel the need to listen to Nidge then walk away.

I totally disagree with the idea of a driver needing to 'defend' himself in such a manner. That sort of action should be thoroughly condemned, it brings far greater dangers.

I feel Nidge's postings on this and other forums demonstrate that he has a very low 'antagonism' threshold. His inability to control himself and respond with barbed insults on forums is almost certainly mirrored in the way he reacts to customers. Thus his number of 'incidents'.

It is no coincidence that it is the same drivers who seem to have the trouble each Saturday evening. Training how to deal with drunks/druggies is a crucial part of Driver training with our company.

Never meet aggresion with aggresion.

And of course the fact hinted upon but not said by Tom Thumb,a weapon you bought for your cab can be used againt you.

either way if it isnt it can land you in jail.

we are here to earn a living, much better to learn to weed out the scum prior to them getting in the cab in the first place.

Yes clearly... as you say... i have "Absolutely no knowledge" of my local city.

The council didn't test me and I take all my passengers of a magical mystery tour of adventure for the simplest of fares.

What an absolutely stupid comment to make and thanks for your support "guest". No doubt you know ALL the roads in your area?

Sharky.

Don't worry about him Sharky, he just sometimes makes his point a little too strongly maybe?

Come on, lighten up "Guest" have you never forgot where somewhere is? Or done an out of towner to a town you dont know all that well? Blimey, my manor is miniscule compared to yours, but I quite often dont know places. Especially the farms, and finding em at night aint the easiest job in the world.

Yep.... Every street, close, avenue & mews. I cant believe that a so called taxi driver has taken on the job without a good knowledge of the area.
You originally stated that you have just passed your test. Now you stae that the council didnt test you.

Well do your own knowledge test..Thats what you are being paid for. Apart from anything else you will start upsetting the customers if you do not know where you are going. You are supposed to be a professional. You would not call an electrician into your house unless you were happy that he knew what he was doing.

You stated that you have been out half a dozen times in the last month.... what is it...pocket money?

The point about this is that you have come into a trade that has a bad name because of all the cowboys around who just play it for an extra but of cash. You yourself have stated that you dont know the specific roads.. and you have been out there 6 times in a month!!! I reckon you are just playing at being taxi driver.

However, dont take this personally. It is just how I feel about some people who do not rely on this trade as the sole income and treat it as extra bit of undelared income.

I was being sarcastic. My local council requires all applicants to undergo a written - non multichoice exam. The pass mark is 75%.

Like yourself, your anology is flawed. I am being paid to take my passengers from A to B in the most direct route. NOT to be a walking encyclopedia on all 50,000 roads. If I am presented with a road that I am not immediately familiar with then I will ask the passenger which area the road is in.

I'm actually recovering from an illness at the moment and it's all I can manage until I'm 100% fit again. Hopefully, I plan to push myself after the holiday season. Thanks for your concern "anon".

Don't know about the reputation where you you work, but here in Swansea the industry is seen in a positive light. The council are very thorough with their applications, police checks and testing. They are also very proactive in spot checking on busy weekend nights. And they regularly compell owners to have the rates of their meters checked.

No I won't take your comments personally - just ignorant. You have vented your bigoted anger on another user, whom simply asked for a few pointers and advice from their peers. From that you wrongly asummed that I am a cowboy and that I can't possible be doing my job correctly.

Have a nice day.

Sharky

And my area sounds exactly like yours with all the requirements required to work within the trade. Extremely high standards are required.

But I will stand by what I said. Your customer expects you to know where you are going. Especially that drunk who is spoiling for a fight.

The only advice that anyone can give is the advice that you already know. Become that encyclopedia
