So the man who joined the fight to stop his council from dishing out contracts to adjoining authorities with "lower standards" is quite happy to see those same standards adhered to by people who can work at the same PH office as him.

Oh and please include all the relevant wording, which should read Berwick Hackney Carriage Plates.

The point that Berwick ceases to exist as a local authority early 2009 again seems to have been forgotten in your argument ................ so in the interest of honesty the "Berwick" situation is not in any way restricted only to Berwick ......................... the actual situation is that a HC can work under a PH contract anywhere in England and Wales (appart from London & possibly Plymouth) and very easily could be repeated.

The other thing is that, and again you fail to properly explain, there is no need to have a licence to accept bookings for a HC ................. and the possibilities of some people taking advantage of that who couldn't get a Licence, a very worrying possibility.

Still .............. never let anything get in the way of your eutopia of everyone having a HC ............... even if all of them are licensed by a single authority possibly hundreds of miles away from where they will be working.

This is not a Newcastle and Berwick issue.

GA.. recently I have been trying to sort out a meter rise in Sefton..... now all the association's agreed excepting one ... the person representing that Association did not want a meter rise at all.... I asked him how he came to that conclusion.... bearing in mind he has persistently insisted that rises should be index linked......

It's for the courts to decide who is the genuine Berwick hackney trade.

That said, if I was a hackney owner in Berwick the more Berwick hackneys working in Newcastle the better.

WTF has that got to do with it?

If Berwick being no-more is an issue then why are two councils spending 10s maybe 100s of thousands of pound on a judicial review next month?

And just for your record, there is nothing stopping a hackney licensed under the 1847 act working PH in London or Plymouth. Nor will there be even after next months judgement.
