I know you profess to be a novice, but pay attention.
The council is culpable. because it deliberately, note deliberately refuses to take account of peak periods when assessing demand. This is no accident. It does this because it is defending its transport policy, its own bus and taxi bus interests. It is putting them before public safety. Do you think they should do this? You do have a daughter, granddaughter do you?
Now pay even more attention, I DONT want de-regulation. get it? I don't want de-regulation. I want de-restriction so that drivers, who actually do the work, can be masters of their own professional destiny - if they so choose.
Now, pay attention again. I know this is difficult for you, and god knows how many times I've said this, what happened in Dublin was unique to Dublin. They had no quality controls. They allowed anyone who wanted to, to buy a cab and operate it. People were buying cabs just so they could use the bus lanes during rush hour.
In Edinburgh, we DO have quality controls. Get it? We DO have quality controls. The skull and I have consistently argued for these to be even stricter so we can control numbers by quality, not quantity.
As things stand in Edinburgh it will be the same drivers, doing the same shifts, only in their own vehicles. They will be able to put their own brand spanking new E7 or equivalent on for less than £200 per week, considerably less than some of the rentals being charged by owners - which incidentally have not come down though the trade is fecked - and which they can double up as their private if they wish, thereby saving even more.
Now, tell me what part of this you are having difficulty with.
