I had a pick up at Newark station today.I was talking to a chap who was on a rank outside the station,which I presumed was a feeder rank."Oh no" he told me,"Those guys pay £1240 for the privelege of ranking there,we pay nothing".
When I picked me jaw off the floor and uttered "F**k me" I began to wonder just where the most expensive station permit was.I would have thought London,obviously.I know the lads in Derby pay around £500 now.
But £1240.....in NEWARK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come on chaps,give me your horror stories.

London stations cost nothing, but from previous threads on this I think Newcastle is the daddy at about £2,000 now, or is it Plymouth at £60 a week?

They'd look silly being gridlocked with protesting taxis though.

Newark is the East Coast Mainline which has been in the news recently regarding National Express pulling out of the Franchise. The East Coast Mainline has a history of ripping drivers off along it's line from London to Newcastle.

and that contract finishes this week, but drivers at York are still required to pay York Stn taxis permit fees, how come, doesn't everything now go into limbo

I doubt it. The fees will still be collected, the train fares will still be collected etc.

National express has broken the contract, so who ever takes over, they will have to re-negotiate the station, so stop being taken for a mug just refuse to pay end off, point out that London's drivers don't pay and they have the potential to earn up to 10 times your take

The thing is Skip the London Drivers will block the station off if they had to pay for ranking up, it's like dog eat dog round here with station permits, if they don't pay at Newark someone will pay it.

Our local hospital was on the phone to our gaffa yesterday asking him if he wanted the free phone contract? He asked them how much? Five grand, yes £5,000. He asked how much would be going to the hospital? The chap on the other end of the phone said nothing, it turned out it wasn't the hospital but the building company called Skanska who are re building the hospital, the hospital is going to be PFI when it's finished so all monies earned will be going into Skanska's pockets. Our gaffa said if something was going into the hospitals pockets the he'd think about it.

I've been talking to the company who have just given up the free phone and one of their drivers said it's a waste of money because people use their mobiles to call their regular firm when they've finished in the hospital.

To a degree I agree, but I think at hospitals you have folks that aren't local, especially if the hospital has a casualty.

It all depends on where the phone is sighted, if they are in full view they will be used more

You wouldn't think it was a phone it's like a silver box with a load of little cards and buttons, it puts you there's a button to book a buggy, there's a button for the NHS trust, there's a button for security and right at the bottom there's a button for a Taxi.

No public rank at station. The public looking rank outside the station is private and costs £5,800 a car a year approx on a 10 year closed agreement so no other hackney carriages or any other taxi can park there or pick up at staion what so ever unless you park your vehicle 400m away in the public station car park put a sign in the window saying picking up passenger. Physically walking to the station and personally collecting passenger yourself.

What do you thik about this then?

I reckon that's the sort of bullsh*t idea Arrow cars had about East Midlands Airport re no other pick ups allowed.....Like they could cope!

It's a joke down there now, I hate that place with a passion now.
