Running them all day on LPG is no good for an engine, they like the lubrication properties of petrol.

After getting a gas conversion on a toyota some years ago I was told to run on petrol for the first and last five minutes daily. The reason is gas is too dry to maintain the valve seating area ,thus a short while on petrol solves the problem . Grandads point about engine oil lubricating the system , I f engine oil was getting into the combustion chamber it would certainly oil the valves. It would also mean you had a sick motor ,you would have a smokey exhaust also poor performance and using a lot of engine oil. Hope this helps . Cheers Kevin.

Nidge, be wary of what you add to pump derv, its generally already 5% bio - the maximum most Hdi/Tdci engines are fond of, your pump is £1500 - 2 stroke in the derv works for the old transit 2.5di (or so its said) but i only add cetane to my fuel in small quantities to help the burn

The motor with the added oil to the diesel did more MPG than the one running on normal diesel.

Due to the fact that the diesel quality in East European Countries, Russia and China does not meet the DIN requirements, and Mercedes did not want to take the risk of their engines to flopp due to lousy fuel, the total tour has been accompanied by diesel tanks to re-fuel the E-Class cdi's. Selected members of the Mercedes clientele could apply to participate in selected parts of this test-tour, and advocats and notaries had to certify the correctness of this long term reliability test.

I totally agree Nidge, today's normal diesel has had that much removed you no longer get the full mpg or longevity
