I'm still waiting for him to explain how in deregulated areas thiers more work for drivers??

Some of his analysis is quiet good, however he really is up him self...

I don't believe anyone is nessarly suggesting such, but to suggest there will be less work is clearly nonsense.
However one could quite rightly argue, going back 5 or 6 years, most of the HAC's plying in restricted areas were happy allowing customers to wait hours for a cab. Resulting in more and more night buses, which is now having a detrimental effect on their earnings.

How can you think that more cabs doesnt mean less work ? As for your night buses scenario they dont even run there not viable. If you hadnt noticed in the past 5 or 6 years people dont really go out the same, blame it on smoking, price of drinks, whatever you want, even taxis.Have you not noticed pubs closing down ? The only growth market is Tesco extra, more people congregate outside them than they do pubs.So back to your analysis of blaming restriction on less work, try again your failing miserably...

@ Blackpool, that is about the long and short of the matter

@ Taxeman, fraid not mate, every night bus here has ceased trading except the unfairly sub'd ones, i.e Uni bus, at peak the longest a customer had to wait here at peak time was 20 minutes, have you ever been in a pub or a shop where it's taken 20 minutes to get served? I know I have and the cry from me should be more staff, but that isn't economically viable for the owner, same thing in a bank, only the cab industry seems to have to meet the criteria of instant gratification, and please remind me how long a PH customer can wait after phoning up, you're talking with one whose had 45 mins + waits before, nobody is being as critical towards PH as they are HC when it comes to waiting, and lets not forget Mr & Mrs we're just coming as they hold the car up in the middle of the road for 10 minutes because she hasn't finished applying her slap to her face or he's just got another pint after putting the phone down, I don't think the HC or PH owe the customer anything more than they already supply regarding availabilty,

Basics of it are if there is a queue at the rank and you don't want to wait you phone a PH car and wait for it away from the rank, with all this Law thing going on they've missed the one thing that would make a difference, public education, how 2 call a cab and be ready for it, how not to expect a driver to want your legless corpse in his car, how to get your wallet out and pay up without a dispute because you think it's normally 20p less etc, when you call be ready, when you hail get in and don't stand with the door open making up your mind where to go next, know where you want before you open the door, stay out of the road, roads are for cars, pavements for ppl, don't get a cab if you feel sick, put your seatbelt on, look for the car with the light on the roof if hailing, it ain't rocket science but it is to the simple and stupid.

You're making too much sense on this one, these guys have the final solution for existing plate holders up and down the country, they call it "phased deregulation" over a period if time, not the "cold turkey" option. They even get a bit of Dublin in there.

I do wonder who the actual authors of this report are, and whose "vested interests" they're really serving.

That might be the case in your manor, but the night buses down here have taken large numbers of punters away from the cab trade.

Where are these extra cabs coming from?

They are coming from journeymen meeting existing demand, and PH meeting existing demand.

Which presumably means PH circuits are over subscribed?
